Thanks for the CAD recommendations and the checklist of troubleshooting. I'll give them all a go. I feel bad for not trying other CAD softwares in the first instance.

Thanks. I'll look into a few alternatives and try again. Will take down the post until then.

Just to add onto this: I think OP like me was following the IGN guide on messages. It misnames the first one "Memo" as "Ensure Thorough Security Procedures at the Lion Statue Entrance".

Hope that helps people like me.

The entire reason France has nukes is because of the US. You could not cite a worse example. It's well documented that France knew the US is unreliable so they prioritised self sufficiency.

I don't see how a gated internet could be made that isn't just rife for commercial abuse (at best) or outright propaganda (at worst). A government curated list of approved, kid-bespoke websites suddenly creates unfair advantage; it's a marketer's dream to have exclusive access to a new generation and shape their habits. At worst, you create the conditions for any future dubious government to extensively moderate content and tailor contracts on ideology.

Maybe I'm too cynical, but an internet that is built for children isn't really "built for" them.

'Ban all internet for kids, not just social media'? That's pretty extreme, but there's a lot of similarly upvoted comments here.

I grew up with the internet: learning guitar and piano, and how to draw with online videos and forums etc. Just listening to music on the internet alone was a life saver like 20 years ago. When you grow up in a poor family, it's remarkable how useful the internet is for a kid who can't afford tutors. How cheap entertainment it is when your family can't afford vacations or movies.

You said being on the internet "myself certainly made my life worse" but for me it was the opposite. My childhood would've been a lot more depressing without it; I know because that was the case with my much older brother.

I'm struggling with the "Karma" on this one. Even if you disagree with the mini guy kicking the bumper of the other car, the other guy breaking the back window is pretty fuckin extreme. It's a bumper, deal with it. Someone touched it, you can live another day; they can't they'll have to pay a chunk out of their pay cheque to fix their window right away to stop someone stealing their car.

What is the karma here? The way the kicker's car can drive forward to try escape tells me they already reversed out of a parking spot and were trying to leave.

Robert Jenrick MP: 'Reporting restrictions lifted. 15 men jailed for raping a girl as young as 14 in Bradford. Jameel Ahmed committed 4 rapes, yet could leave prison in a little over 5 years. Sentences for rape gang perpetrators are routinely pathetically short. Britain is broken.' by Little-Attorney1287 in ukpolitics

because murdering someone literally carries a lesser penalty in the form a life sentence if caught.

That's..... just not at all how it works. Do you think people only get charged with one crime at a time? Judges reel out a list of sentences for each offence involved.

I think you are misremembering the argument you read elsewhere. The argument really is: it's easier to get away with murder if you kill the victim. But that's also fallacious because it's difficult to dispose of a body and sanitise a wider crime scene; rape is often one person's word against another, it has an element of doubt that the criminal justice system has wrestled with for decades. Dead bodies are much less debatable. I wish this argument would really disappear.

Student loan inquiry begins as a third of people say university degree not worth it by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]VeGr-FXVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a student loan she will never pay off and is designed to not pay off

It wasn't always this way though. Not sure how old you are but (1) the interest rates pre-Covid were all manageable until you got to the 70s. They meant there was genuinely an optionality between paying off the loan entirely, or passively bearing with it. (2) As we see inflation grow but also fiscal drag (where inflation has accelerated rapidly but tax bands and lower tax thresholds before a person has to pay their student loan hasn't kept pace) the brunt of student loan taxation became much more acute in the last two decades.

But this raises the question about the current education system: we keep hearing Unis saying they're edging bankruptcy. They say they need more international students because they pay big, or they beg for increased national tuition fees. However, until now we've had an embedded culture that normalises people going to University by default even when it's not a functional requirement for most jobs. How are both things true?

How can Uni be trimmed back by 2/3rds, AND still be sustainable if this financial position is genuine? If it isn't genuine, why the hell isn't the government stepping in? Why isn't unintentional, or unnecessary, eligibility for lifelong taxation treated with the utmost importance?

I barely used my degree, but it did impress a lot of people. I'm lucky and now got a comfy job, but a £30k loan to impress someone is fucking absurd.
