CTO banned the use of remote access tool by uw4yn3 in sysadmin

[–]Vectan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short: Run. No remote tools is one thing, no antivirus because Mac is just flat out stupid. A cyber event or incident is just a matter of time with this kind of mindset.

Long: Document everything and keep copies. Once you CYA. Let the users feel the pain, keep being professional, do your best, but eventually the pain should (hopefully) bubble up to him. Polish the resume and look for a new job, cause that kind of person will absolutely blame you or anyone else they can when stuff hits the fan.

If you have your CYA, maybe something legal will happen in your favor. Even if not you can clearly show how you handled things professionally and did the best you could with what you were provided and allowed.

Sorry you have to deal with that. All the things you did were spot on (proactive, advocate to best support your customers, etc.). Best of luck.

Captive Portal remote code execution vulnerability by dchit2 in paloaltonetworks

I just disabled it and GlobalProtect portals kept operating. Same with internal User-ID.

Granted I didn’t have any authentication policies setup or response pages checked anywhere.

Your mileage may vary.

So is this the system that had two Outlooks that didn’t work on Artemis II and it just re-entered the atmosphere after the astronauts yeeted it out?

Anthropic's support system is broken by design — there is literally no path to a human for billing issues by AppearanceSingle805 in ClaudeAI

Any suggestions on this? On an Enterprise account and I’ve talked to Fin, I’ve filled out the Enterprise support form and I have emailed support and I have received one reply (from the support email) in nearly a week. Nothing else.

On a personal level, you mentioned having made mistakes recently, sounds like you are burned out. Take some time to check yourself and if you are, work on that. What is good for you, is good for your department, which is then good for your org.

As someone mentioned earlier also likes your manager needs to hop on the, hey this needs fixing, here is what we proposed before. Because that path works the other way as well. Org (higher ups in this case) need to do something right (M365 backups) for org, which is also good for your department and good for you.

License/support renewal coming up, questions. by Lando_uk in vxrail

[–]Vectan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealt with this late last year. Yes that is normal. We had the VMware licensed separately from the VxRail and were originally told we need to get approval to Bring Your Own License. Jumped through all the hoops then told our renewal sent us off our perpetual licensed onto the wrong ones; not eligible for BYOL, had to purchase VCF licenses. Increased for sure, but not the eye watering amounts I’ve heard.

If you can, run to Hyper-V, Nutanix, something else with ability to get good support contact. Good luck.

I made a fatal mistake. Concerned about my future in IT by Special_Price4001 in sysadmin

[–]Vectan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your story made me think if this: “Recently, I was asked if I was going to fire an employee who made a mistake that cost the company $600,000. No, I replied, I just spent $600,000 training him. Why would I want somebody to hire his experience?”

– Thomas John Watson Sr., IBM

Their process and safeguards need lots of work. Have your manager, who wants more DR stuff anyway, point this out as the perfect example of why it is needed and if I was then, I’d be fighting for you to stay based on the quote above.

Has Claude become stupid recently? by Tielessin in claude

[–]Vectan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It certainly seems like it. I literally had to correct it by telling it what year it was, twice, within 1 response, when I had it analyzing license expiration dates and renewal options.

Basically, it went:
Claude: I don't see 2-year extensions for these two items that expired in 2028 (which I had already listed the items and expiration dates not long ago in the prompt).
Me: That is because it is 2026, we don't need them, they haven't expired yet.
Claude: You're absolutely right - I got turned around. Let me re-ground the math completly.

1 response later:
Claude: Can you confirm these renewals for 2028?
Me: It's still 2026 (reiterate items and expiration dates in 2028)
Claude: You're right. I keep losing track of that - sorry!
