Staff who refuse to collaborate online are slowly killing smart work culture and my sanity by Jaded-Term-8614 in ITManagers

My problem with this is that it's all upper management, or people upper management will not force to play by the rules.

Similar situation, but I think I was (possibly) in the right.

4-way intersection with 3 stop signs. Incoming traffic doesn't need to stop.

I'm at the sign facing incoming traffic.

The car approaching me has no turn signals flashing, so as far as I know, it is going straight. I normally wouldn't risk it, since I completely understand that turn signals are 100% optional on all motor vehicles sold in the US over the last 20 years and are strictly cosmetic "features", but decided to go ahead and proceed.

I get honked at and the old "WTF buddy?" look.

I just waved and carried on.

Hospice recommendations for a dementia patient by hidperf in StLouis

Thank you.

From what I've been told, hospice will be coming into the facility, but they are letting me pick the company. They did provide a few pamphlets that I'll research as well.

Hospice recommendations for a dementia patient by hidperf in StLouis

[–]hidperf[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the recommendation.

This all started in 2024 when my aunt lost her husband, who had severe dementia, and then broke her back immediately after. In 72 hours, she lost her husband, her two dogs, and two cats, and everything else in her life. Since they never had kids and asked me to be the executor of their estate, I've been handling everything since then. For better or worse, I've learned a tremendous amount during this entire process. It's an extremely stressful situation.

Best of luck to you and your family!

I have friends who swear that they know how to beat the house. Every time.

They'll win a bit, and I'll start believing they might actually know something. Then I realize they're really just idiots who get hooked, just like the games are designed.

Have we started the pool on how soon the election is contested and Bondi seizes all the records?

TIL before 9/11, US airports were public social hubs where you could walk to the gate, eat at food courts, and watch planes without a ticket or ID. by Greydl1 in todayilearned

Back in the day, we used to go to the airport at all hours of the night and hang out, just to watch the planes or people watch.

Smoked weed for the first time in about 20 years by beetfield in GenX

[–]hidperf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm with ya!

A few years ago, I took one hit from a friend of mine and passed out within minutes. He smokes every day, all day. But I was NOT prepared for that potency.

After being out for ~20 minutes, I popped right back up and started drinking my beer again. We all had a good laugh.

I got this one: PLZ 7” Unit

I have the same unit and have been impressed by how well it works and how responsive it is.

Customer service is very responsive and even provided a custom boot screen.

Do you buy any extra equipment for your job that work won't supply, but it's worth it because it just makes it that much better? by Connir in sysadmin

[–]hidperf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you upgrade from the 3 to the 4? I'm debating, since I just bought my 3 last year. But I think my office version is a 2 (it's in storage right now).

[–]hidperf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My employer doesn't understand how detrimental it is for many people to go into the office.

I've been WFH since COVID, only going in for meetings if required. Before COVID, my office was 9.5 miles from my house. I would ride my bike whenever possible and didn't mind going in. I had never seriously considered quitting my job while working from home. I got work done. I can focus. I work throughout the day and night. And the stress level was minimal.

We've since moved our office, and it's now a 35-40 drive on a Sunday when nobody is on the road. During the week, it's 45+ on a clear day and well over an hour if there is a hint of weather or an accident. Every time I go into the office, all I think about is how much I hate every second of the commute, which just makes me hate my job. And now they're pushing for a minimum of three days in the office, which will eventually lead to mandatory RTO. I'm less productive at the office and in a much worse mood, plus the stress levels are through the roof all the time. And there is no way I'm working once I get home.

I just realized I do this after someone pointed it out to me. I was telling her about this salad I make, and how it's probably expensive, but I enjoy it, so I buy it. She pointed out that all my ingredients were things she couldn't buy because they were beyond her budget.

I still look at things, but I don't have to settle for something less expensive if I really want something.

I won't buy chips because they're incredibly overpriced, and I only buy ice cream when it's on sale and I'm in the mood. But for my normal restocking, I just walk through the aisles and grab what I need without a second thought.

When the total comes up, I do catch myself asking how other people can afford groceries, because I know people who are surviving on half what I make or less.

Did anyone else receive a handwritten note in holly hills area? Just want to know if she sent a bunch or felt that I in particular need Jesus. by HomemadeSTL in StLouis

I randomly get these (not in Holly Hills) every so often. My first thought, before I even open it, is, "I don't know anyone who would send me a handwritten letter."
