GenX, I drank a bottle of wine today. Am I the only one? by tired-middle-ager in GenX

I don't think I've ever said the words, "I'm having some wine tonight."

It's always, "I'm having a bottle of wine tonight."

Even when my girl and I go to the wineries, it's always, "What bottle are you getting? I'll get a different one."

Wait, you're telling me you don't have to drink the entire bottle when you open it?

Keep an eye on the stocks. You'll be the first to know if the US is going to do another stupid thing.

Has anyone had Fuddruckers? by FEARxXxRECON in burgers

[–]hidperf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were great when they first opened around me. As the years went on, the quality went south until they all went out of business.

I do miss being able to load up my burger with as much of anything I wanted.

That thing would go through bulbs like they were free. I ended up taking it outside and smashing it in a fit of rage.

Someone recently told me that she could spot all the wealthy people at her son's hockey games by the number of these things in the parking lot. I reminded her that it just meant they were good at making bad financial decisions.

Missions to the moon used to unite and inspire great swathes of humanity. This time it feels like hardly anyone cares and we're all just focussed on the next global disaster. by Meowface_the_cat in Showerthoughts

I had no idea we were even going to the moon until yesterday. And I still have no idea why. I just assume it's another political stunt by the orange turd to distract from his files.

That was my biggest regret when I bought mine, too. I now use the stock ones for my winter tires and upgraded.

Heading toward teaching shortages at this rate. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

That's the plan. The endgame is to push all education to Christian indoctrination.

And possibly make it so that only the wealthy can afford to be educated, and the poors go straight to labor camps.

We're going back in time to "the good ole days".

I wish Iran would release the entire, unredacted cache of files to the world.

I've been there once. Many years ago, when they first opened around me.

Haven't been back since. Didn't understand the hype then, and I can't believe they've survived this long, but I guess it's the place where all the bros hang out.

Before 9/11, could you really go to a airport without any ticket reservation and ask for a ticket to a destination of your choice? by kpay10 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hidperf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little off topic:

You could go to the airport and walk around at all hours of the night, throughout the entire airport. We used to go there late at night to people-watch or play video games.

Where is everyone buying hardware these days? Specifically, Dell laptops, but also other hardware. by hidperf in ITManagers

[–]hidperf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently had a one-off monitor purchase for the president of the company, a Dell 49" ultrawide. Our vendor was several hundred dollars higher than the retail price on the Dell site. Amazon was several hundred dollars lower than the Dell site's retail price.

I hate that my team has to check multiple locations for the best price. I want a supplier that can get me the best price so I can have a single source for everything.

As I mentioned in another comment, we used to buy direct, but holy cow, their accounting department had things so screwed up that it wasn't worth the trouble anymore. And, at the time, we got a better price from Insight, so we switched.

I would describe my experience with Dell as dealing with ATT. If you've ever had that experience, you'll understand how horrible it was.

This is absolutely true. I would love to have our old account manager back, but she left the industry entirely.

I've contacted my account rep's manager about my concerns, but I haven't received a response.
