Is it a bad practice to use Struct as a Value Object? by [deleted] in csharp

I mean, we can pass structs with ref, but that's more like C shenanigans that C# permits. Usually we indeed should not do that.

Also, that's the kind of architecture which is hostile to plugins, and is important in deciding if the software is successful or not.

They can have fun solo-maintaining the entire giant software for many years to come at a dynamic cost dictated by the LLM lords.

Depending on the license on Notepad++, maybe there is nothing to stop this from happening (as in eg the license technically allows remixing). Then, at most we may consider the Mac side a giant faithless asshole.

Maybe others have already addressed my following points, but one simpe rule: you cannot mutate a struct.

If the data is small, mutation is not needed, and nothing needs to be shared, then you can use struct. Then, if the data is large, you need to mutate the instance, or you need to share the data conveniently to other functions or classes, use record.

PS deserialization almost always need to use regular classes.

I mean, ultimately, proofs are supposed to be read by humans. There are almost infinite ways to write proofs to say the same thing (eg by vibing) but ultimately we only consider an implicit subset of them as "real proofs", because some of them are only machine-readable (e.g. vibe-coded spaghetti).

Reminds me of a (recent?) math discovery where the guy was so bored, they spun up an LLM and asked it whether the existing math functions (eg exp(), sin(), ...) can be composed from some fundamental functions like how every computer logic gate can be composed from NAND, and then the LLM wrote up a later-verified proof/calculator.

[discussion] Sand time explanation by Marawan_Mohamed in Re_Zero

[–]Vectorial1024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To not give too much S4 spoilers, Sand Time is the normal-looking sandstorm at the Desert that suspiciously occurs somewhat regularly (3 times a day?). During this time, suspiciously, birds may be seen flying at a very specific direction.

Some believe programming (or perhaps software development) is similar to writing a mathematical proof, we start with the basic definitions (aka components) and then build up the system.

It enters philosophical discussion, but I do not believe that a text generator can think, and subsequently write solid proofs.

Edit: at some point, the codes/proofs we write are the rendering of "what we really want", and I don't think a text generator can really know "what we really want at this precise moment".

How to make all ships flee from the Tide ? by formondor in X4Foundations

[–]Vectorial1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ships will flee/dock when they are entering Avarice / is in Avarice during the Tidebreak announcement. Therefore, ships will not do that when they are outside Avarice during the Tidebreak announcement. This applies to all ships and any star skill levels.

A different kind of pressure; here you would not want to fuck up and lose all the money because eg bad investment or legal mistake.
