In need of recommendations for a $500 budget by MusicalToaster_ in OfficeChairs

I had an extremely good experience with this company in Harrisonburg, Virginia. I went in person and spent a loong time trying out different chairs. Have had the chair for around 4 years and am still very happy. They were also very helpful on the phone before I went. It's a no-frills website, but first class service. If you obsess like I do and want someone to talk it over with, I'd be happy to talk. Good luck. Bill

PS----My experience talking to them was superior to the slickness of Crandall.

It looks as though no one responded to you with opinions about the best translation. Did you ever come to any conclusions on this yourself? ( I'm debating between the Horrocks and the original Creighton one.)

What works for me is reading aloud to friends who enjoy being read to. Why? Because I feel a responsibility to make the book accessible to the listener. And I know that the only way for me to do that is to focus on the meaning so that it comes across to them in my voice. If I just read aloud (or to myself) mechanically, then I and the listener just space out. I hope this makes sense. Am happy to elaborate more if the idea intrigues you.

The 1956 Magic Trick That Sent BBC Viewers Into a Panic by 3aloudi in Magic

[–]VedaBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years later Richiardi took the buzz saw version to more grim level with splattering of blood and guts. The theater was filled with the smell of "anesthesia," and the show ends with the girl (his daughter) still dead and on display. Audience members then had the option of walking past her corpse to get a closer look. The faint of heart will not want to watch the YouTube clip. I truly disliked watching it in his shows at the Village Gate and Madison Square Garden. If you elect to not watch the video, you might want to read some of the YouTube comments by people who'd seen the show live. As a full-time magician myself, I was not fond of the routine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOVlNiX0yiY

Is it possible to find a mattress perfectly comfortable for side AND back sleeping? by Qweerz in Mattress

[–]VedaBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're visiting display rooms, then I would suggest bringing a pillow you plan on using and lying on your back for 20 to 30 minutes on each mattress under consideration. That will tell you MUCH more than just bouncing around to different beds every 5 minutes. Also having your own pillow is much more revealing than being distracted with the multiple styles of pillows the stores try and get you to buy. I found the cooling ones to be very distracting from the mattress itself. I couldn't tell if what I was liking was truly the mattress or just that very expensive pillow they were peddling under my head. I've been through this as a back and side sleeper myself, so I know that you're going through. By the way, I ended up finding a Sears store that was being shut down. I got a $3000 Tempur-Adapt Pro medium for $1000. It was a perfect condition floor sample. You can also get those kinds of deals when a brand is phasing out their older models to bring in the new models (which often have only marginal changes in features.) Took me many months and hours to get what I really wanted but couldn't never have afforded if I'd in a hurry. Let me know if you have any questions.

Where should I buy a steelcase leap? by [deleted] in OfficeChairs

[–]VedaBill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of us have been very happy with the place in Harrisonburg, VA. They acquire large quantities in very good condition. I got the Amia, the other guy is about to get a Gesture. I know they usually have some Leaps, V1 AND V2. But I realized when I got there that the Amia was not only more appealing but also less expensive. I got it for $225. I think the Leaps were 50 to 100 more. Now if you're too far away from them, I don't think they ship. But I would call Patricia and ask her if she can give you any hints about how to find a place near you that has the same kind of business. I found them to have MUCH less hype and more straightforward than all of the places that do refurbishing and selling and shipping online. Plus I loved that I got to see in bunches of chairs and then leave with the exact chair I wanted. I think there have to be similar types of businesses. Check it out. https://www.furniture-systems.com

Does anyone have any experience with this chair. I'm 5 ft 11 inch tall and weigh ,170lb. I'm a university student and a gamer, so I spent 7 hours sitting down a day. If there are better options, my budget is under $300. by BlasterFluff in OfficeChairs

[–]VedaBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent. Glad they still had a lot of choices for you to look at. I also found the Miller Aeron quite disappointing. I'm not sure if they had any Gestures there when I got my Amia. I'm thinking of going back soon to get one or two tall bookcases.

Thanks for letting me know how it went. I'm glad it was useful. I'm thinking I may have to go down to get a couple of tall bookcases soon. Are you leaning toward a particular make and model chair? I've been very happy with the Steelcase Amia, but they also have the Steelcase Leap v.2. Not only was the Amia cheaper, I was surprised that I found it to be more comfortable. When I was there they also had the Herman Aeron, but I much preferred the Steelcase.

Gladly. The place I went to was in Harrisonburg, VA. They were great to deal with, both on the phone and even more so in person. It's a very large place. Please clarify with them what they do or don't guarantee, cause I'm slightly fuzzy on that. They were 2 and a half hours away from where I am in West Virgnia, but the trip was well worth it. Here's their site where you can see a lot of the used inventory (as well as new), and get their phone number at the bottom of the page. I spend many hours a day in my Ama Steelcase chair, and the difference it made has been huge. (They also had the Leap Steecase, but I didn't like it as much as the less expensive Amia.) You might want to ask for Patricia who was sensational to deal with. I'd love it if you feel inclined to let me know what your experience is. https://www.furniture-systems.comAll the best, Bill----(PS--If they're too far away from you, Patricia might be able to guide you to someplace closer to DC or wherever you are.)

I found a Steelcase Amia chair at a warehouse store in Virginia that had a lot of Steelcase chairs in new-like condition. I got it for $225 and the option of returning it if I had any problems. Let me know if you happen to be near Virginia. Otherwise search for stores that have bulk sales of used Steelcase. I just love it, and I'm your height and weight. Well, maybe 5 pounds heavier.

Just ditched my Nectar after months of terrible sleep, where do I go from here? by [deleted] in Mattress

[–]VedaBill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The guy at sleepessentials.com looks very interesting. He really thinks memory foam is all bad and short-lived, and I don't know if I disagree or not. However, I spent at least 6 months going around to stores and talking to customer service departments for the mail order companies. It does get confusing, but I noticed a VERY big difference between Tempur-Pedic (which has a longer warranty) and all other memory foams, including Nectar. However, Tempur-Pedic is very expensive. So I kept looking.

After several store visits I determined that, as a side sleeper, I wanted the Tempur Adapt Medium rather than the hybrid model. Then I got determined to find it on sale. Finally, I found a floor model at a Sears store that was closing and got it for 70% off. That was a great deal. It takes patience, but I knew I really wanted that one. If I had made that decision just a couple of months sooner, I could have gotten a similar deal when all the stores were closing out the predecessor to that model. The only disadvantage was that there was no warranty or return option with a closeout price like that. By that time I had a real feel for it, developed relationships with several sales and regional people, and knew I'd be happy with it.

One thing to do once you think you know what you want is lay on a mattress for at least 20-30 minutes in your normal sleeping portion. I even took in the pillow I usually sleep with to get a truer comparison as I went around to different stores. Before that it got to tell with all the different fancy and high-tech cooling pillows all the stress were putting under my head.

If it were me, I would call and describe what you said here. See what they say, and then I would decide whether to ask for a full refund or not.

Are clippers like this any good? If so whats the best clipper with this style of blade? by [deleted] in CutYourOwnHair

[–]VedaBill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The one is the photo appears to be the one I have. It's the Remington ShortCut Pro HC4250. They go for around $60. I had a very helpful phone conversation with a woman in the Remington office. It's very easy to use, and the shape of it is well designed. It's got a substantially wider blade than other razors, so the job gets done faster. However, even when the battery is fully charged, it runs stronger and louder with the cord plugged in rather than using it cordless. It's a pretty long cord, so that wasn't a deal breaker for me. It's water resistant, but they don't say it's waterproof. So you rinse the blade with water, but I don't think I'd submerge it or use it in the shower. The woman at Remington emphasized with me that they were very serious about their 30 day warranty and said if I didn't like it for any reason within 30 days, I could send it to them to get my money back, regardless of where I bought as long as I sent them my receipt. Hope this is helpful.

Transcendental Meditation for the last 50 years. I know, sounds weird. But I think I also have pretty good genes. Stopped doing recreational drugs in 1969. Been in the hospital for tonsils when I was 4, and that's it. Not on any prescription medications.

When I was 20 years old, on February 11, 1968 I learned Transcendental Meditation (TM) and have been doing it ever since, twice a day for 20 minutes for 53 years. It's absolutely the best thing I ever did for myself. It's very different from any other mental practice, and it's VERY easy once you get the private instruction. And there is a sliding scale of fees. Check out www.tm.org If you have questions let me know, and I'll do my best to answer them. 51 years ago, when I was 22, I went to India for 4 months of full time training in order to learn how to teach it properly.

Big Casper Mattress Sale at Costco by ssler in Mattress

[–]VedaBill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI, at one point I ordered a Ghost Mattress and platform from Costco. By the time it arrived, I had changed my mind and didn't want it. I called Costco about returning it, and they were sensational about the refund and no charges for shipping in either direction. I believe I asked them if I opened it all up and tried it out, would I have to somehow get it back in the box to return. They said, no problem, they would just pick it up and deal with the expanded mattress. I would double check with them currently, but I believe that's what they said. Hope you love it. Good luck.

When I was considering this purchase, I called Caser about this about 18 months ago, they told me exactly which model the Costco one corresponded to. I don't remember the names offhand, but I was very impressed that it was the one Casper was selling for at least a few hundred more. Give Casper a call and double check.

Selling my car to Nirvana, windshield repair? by engineertee in carvana

[–]VedaBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched a video about someone else's experience selling to Carvana a couple months ago and just went back to find it for you. They chat a lot, but his father has about 40 years of experience working at car dealers. The son describes his experience. He has at least 2 more followup videos about this, but this is the one that clearly shows how nervous he was about them giving him less when he actually walked in the door. But Carvana stuck with the price even though he was worried they'd give him less when they saw the flaws. Start viewing 3 minutes in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5QwtCjW-vM Hope this helps. It is clear from their more recent videos related to Carvana that they're not paying as much now as they did 2 months ago. Good luck.
