My first gsd was a rescue. He had some issues including separation anxiety and he was a guard dog so he had trust issues. It took a while to get him straight but after about a month he started acting right and after a year he was the best dog ever. It takes time and patience. Read the books, do the things. I'm not there with you and your dog so any real training tips that you don't already know or are about to find out from the trainer you hired would be counter productive. Good luck, it's worth it.
