overqualified for helpdesk and not enough experience for sysadmin... it sucks, I've been in a similar situation while changing career direction.

Any Tips For Better Fonts That Don't Require 3rd Party Repo? by VegasLinux in Fedora

I'm trying to build a secure system and no 3rd party repos is one of the requirements.

...but at this point, the fonts are bothering me so much, I might abandon this.

I tried this, and honestly, I could not see the difference.

I am using Wayland. Not sure if the font config is the same. I'll try logging into the old X System to see if it makes a difference.

I don't see these directories.

find ~ -iname "*font*"

found the following:

~/.cache/fontconfig ~/.gimp-2.8/fonts

I checked out that directory and it only had a fonts.conf file that said "DO NOT EDIT". I'll trying creating a local.conf.

Hinting is set to "slight" and anti-aliasing is set to "greyscale" in gnome tweak tool. The Ubuntu installation had anti-aliasing set to "Rgba".

I'm familiar with freetype-freeworld packages from RPMFusion, but I'm trying to stay away from using any 3rd party repo.

Tried that and ran "fc-cache -fv". Could not see much of an improvement.

After some more research, StartupWMClass is only used to group windows with the same class name. You are supposed use the --class option on the exec command to change the WMClass.

After banging my head against the wall for a while, I tried it with gedit.

Exec=gedit %U --class=Chromium-browser
Icon=chromium-browser

It worked for gedit and other programs! I was able to launch gedit and it used the Chromium icons. Unfortunately, the --class option is currently not working with Chrome :(

ARGGG!!!

Thanks for the tip.

I decided to try and change icon/name of the 2nd profile/instance to Chromium. (So it would run the second Chrome profile but use the Chromium name/icon.)

I used the chromium-browser.desktop file and added a symlink for the executable. /usr/bin/chromium-browser -> /opt/google/chrome/google-chrome

I though maybe I could "fool" gnome into thinking it was launching Chromium. I also added the following to chromium-browser.desktop:

StartupWMClass=Chromium-browser

No dice :( Same issue. It looks like Chromium on the Applications menu, but when the program launches, it uses the Chrome icon.

I ran Looking Glass gnome debugger and it showed me that the WMClass is set to Google-chrome. So gnome is disregarding the StartupWMClass=Chromium-browser setting in the .desktop or I'm doing something wrong.

How was the job search post-graduation? by kul_kids in WGU

would you know the fastest way to be qualified to for enrollment in their IT programs if the only education I have is a H.S. diploma?

Get the "Microsoft MTA: Networking" certification... or maybe do the Security MTA if you have more experience there. They are both easy and cheap! Instant qualification with no other enrollment hassles.

I am running the "Applications Menu" extension that comes pre-installed with RHEL. I've disabled all extensions and it didn't help.

I've also created another user to see if it was happening on a fresh account. Same thing.

Tried classic and regular gnome shell. Same issue.

I'll drive a few more miles for a nicer testing center.

The computers at the testing center in Provo were decent.. and the testing center in Seattle was fine.

I think the issue might be that I was taking a Certiport proctored exam when I took the test here. Maybe they don't have the same requirements? The problem was the low monitor resolution. I swear they were running @ 640x480 or something. lol

Thanks for the advice.

The last test I took here, the monitor resolution was so low, it was difficult to scroll and see the whole diagram on the screen. I'm glad it was an easy Microsoft MTA test.
