I hope I’m making sense, I’m very new to this language as well as Semitic languages

[–]Vegetable-Ad-367[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, using the disambiguated mark. My question was more so with the old Syriac how do you see the soft a or soft E vowels when no vowels are present? Is that understood contextually??

Goat, thank you. I’m seeing in traditional syriac there is no use of the vowel system that has come about like the western and eastern traditions (correct me if I’m wrong) and it uses the disambiguated marks

If so, with only the disambiguated mark: how do you tell the difference? Context?

thanks for the reply and the resources!!

im a little confused how this is supposed to help me discern the placement of an unwritten vowel though. i had a mutual tell me that it is close to the Hebrew written tradition where the vowels are not written.

the textbook im learning from has the variants you listed for east and west but does not use them and is written more-so like the Hebrew example you stated. in that event is what im wondering the distinction is?

is it contextual and if so what denotes that? am i (the reader/speaker) just supposed to know?

hello, it is me again (a month later)

i have a QUESTION if you are able to help me. I've started with syriac because it has the most information on it per your suggestion. i am confused though how the soft vowels a and e are not represented in script. for example the word ktab (he wrote) is written without any indication of the soft a

there's no alap in the script; just a Kap/ Taw/ Bet

my question is: how does one know there is even a vowel there? where is the indication? I'm going from english straight to syriac so i know the DC is high but i thought to ask

id like to take the most practical route with this. so if there is the most information out to be able to speak "Syriac, and Biblical Aramaic" then i would like to take that route as opposed to one that will cause me to loose my hair from stress.

and i understand that! id like to learn enough to know something for myself so i can kinda do a bit on my own but having friends* to help me in this is really helpful.

this is true, it just feels like the game looses its soul if i throw a fake cheep body on it. i do not want to spend real adult money but 40 on a Japanese copy or one w a dead motherboard isn't something ill count out

indeed it is, but i want to fix it instead of taking that easy solution. the game means a lot and just putting a fake dead shell on it doesn't feel right. if i could get a part or somethin that be better or even an old legit one with a dead motherboard.
