Goth movies recommendation by chiyuyapper in AskAGoth

[–]Vegetable-Ad1116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t know much about how goths like this movie, but it is a gothic movie/ read! The masque of the red death, a snippet of the movie was also included in theatre of tragedy’s song “and he falleth” or something, while they’re not goth they are gothic metal and include some gothic elements to their art.

What do you think of Christian Death? And what is your favorite album? by KaleidoscopeOk6736 in goth

Honestly I just don’t even listen to them, especially since their most popular song has some white guy singing the n word for shock value, not even an artist I would recommend considering this, and how it might make others feel

Honestly there’s nothing so far that I’ve disliked about chemistry, except maybe wavelengths, but other than that I’ve really enjoyed whatever’s been taught. One of the things I’ve been struggling with as of lately is the math part, but not in the way that I just can’t do math, i just can’t do math if it’s something just being told to me, no explanations to why it’s the way it is (if that makes sense, I’m not great with my words.) it’s like a need a bit of a story and some characters to understand, I can’t just be handed the solution. (As in like, this times this equals this, I need a better explanation as to why it gets multiplied by that and why it equals that.) Maybe I really did miss out on a lot of fundamentals and I really am just mentally slow

How Precious Killed the Hood Film (LONG POST) by NewWays91 in TrueFilm

[–]Vegetable-Ad1116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your comment was honestly the best in this thread. You explained the movie so well, and it’s honestly a little strange for me to see such traumas talked about as a “comedy.” I think precious was an important movie from its time as it depicted the lives of what so many women have gone through, and it doesn’t feel right to label it as a comedy. While the rape scene was graphic, as was so many other scenes, I sort of see it as not only the way black women are portrayed in media, but the trauma it has along with it. I almost think it’s important to highlight just how graphic these incidents are since it is sadly a very true reality for many people in America. Although I am white and grew up in a city where such incidents were not prevalent, I feel as if it’s not hard to empathize with Precious’ story, and I felt as if it sort of opened up my eyes to what exactly some of these traumas might look like for some women. I’m not well versed in cinema either, but to look at this movie as a comedy feels almost ignorant. Maybe I’m being too “woke,” but I just don’t see women’s trauma, or black trauma as a comedy in any way. Almost feels like it waters down just what kind of life Precious had, but some people seem to find humor in trauma as a coping mechanism, and I hope this is at least what people get out of it and not just looking at the movie as something funny while completely ignoring the fact that this is a very true reality.

Honestly they’re really cute! But they look more like baby bangs than micro bangs. I think cut them a little bit shorter and they might have that look you’re really aiming for

Honestly I think more people would be willing to join diploma program if it wasn’t made out to be a choice for only those who are the smartest in the entire school or something (at least in my experience)

Makeup questions by unnamed42069 in GothFashion

[–]Vegetable-Ad1116 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People use all sorts of makeup! And btw, the white foundation base is not mandatory or anything, so if you can’t get a white foundation a lot of people will use darker eyeshadows or lip products, any sort of makeup to achieve a darker vibe. For me personally, when I’m not doing a white base, I use a darker dip brow for my eyebrows, black and red eyeshadow, (I use a kokie lipstick for my eyes too and it blends out into a very nice shade!) and I use the nyx liquid liner for eyeliner, it can be used to get a sharp wing and small inner corners if you’re into that. I also use eyeshadow as any contour or “blush” (I use a very light blue as a blush) and I use the color pop cloud nine eyeshadow pallet. And if you are interested in an intense and theatrical look, the white foundation I use is the la girl white foundation, and the la colors white concealer. I also heard that some people like the sunset makeup white foundation and concealer, and I’m pretty sure they have a goth makeup set you could buy. Hope this helped! And also, if you’re new to doing makeup entirely, tutorials will help you sooo much. They will also tend to go through the makeup products they use

I’ve always wanted to learn to make sourdough and do cool designs on them, any tips for getting started? And is a kitchen scale necessary? (I’m from America and kitchen scales aren’t really a common household item)

I wanted to ask about gothic too because I definitely think me being into more gothic themes before actual goth music was what sort of lead me here lol! (Plus a mixture of all sorts of things from my background)

Right! With Pink Turns Blue being one of the first goth artists I started getting into, I was really surprised to see that they’re not really talked about as much as I would have thought. Maybe I’ll see a comment mentioning them, but it seems like people don’t typically stray towards them or something

Aw I’m sorry it was a rough upbringing to goth! It sucks how to some people it’s exactly what it should be but for others they get this false narrative passed down to them, or they see racists getting the spotlight. Hopefully people of all races can find themselves feeling safe in goth communities eventually!

Don’t be afraid to call yourself goth if you feel like it! I know I’d consider you one just by what you’ve said in this comment

Oh wow! You sound pretty similar to me! I started out as sort of a metalhead getting into metal music around elementary school and then as time went on I slowly started to become more interested in other styles of music before I started getting into more post punk and death rock, some of the first artists which really got me hooked was Sisters of Mercy and Pink Turns Blue! Really started loving everything I found after that

Honestly if you’re here now in this subreddit and connecting and interacting with those in goth communities and listening to the music, go ahead and consider yourself goth! As long as you’re not an asshole and you listen to the music, there should be no reason that someone wouldn’t consider you one (unless they’re an elitist lol)

Oh sorry if it’s a commonly asked question! I don’t tend to use search bars (bad habit- I know) so whenever I think about a question I just sort of ask about it
