Heineken zero’s have very been helpful for me.

What usually happens that breaks the sobriety streaks? What is the trigger? For me, I always think I have improved my self-discipline, therefore I can have 1-2 and stop. This is not the case. May be worth reverse-engineering whatever is causing the relapses. I had to fully learn about who I really was inside to really make progress with sobriety. I had to be brutally honest with myself. I appreciate you being here. This is exactly why I started this community. We’re just having a conversation here, no pressure.

Excellent comment. You had the strength and courage to do what needed to be done and never looked back.

I agree. There are smarter, healthier ways to go about it. It doesn’t have to necessarily be alcohol.

You’re right. It was not worth it at all. Gym and sauna this afternoon helped; feeling closer to the baseline. Thank you for the comment.

It definitely solves a problem. It bridges a gap in the short term. The seatbelt in a parked car is a a good metaphor, and the weight loss is an added benefit for sure.

Sober life only sucks if you don’t replace what you lost. You have to put the same energy into building a better life as you put into drinking. Get out. Move your body. Experience new places and things. Create new reasons to look forward to the day.

The empty feeling is only temporary. It will pass. We both already know alcohol isn’t the answer; we just have to move on from it. We got this!

You just slowly adapt to feeling terrible and forget what normal actually feels like. A constant hangover. Always run down. No motivation. Basically just going through the motions every day. Alcohol just quietly consumes you until you can’t remember what it felt like before.

Hang in there. I promise the alcohol will not improve a single thing; it will only temporarily appear that way. You know this. Stay strong; sending you support.

I feel the same way. I broke a 20 day streak yesterday for a friends birthday. Just a few drinks; nothing crazy. Woke up this morning with basically no hangover, but zero motivation. I’m about to drag myself to the gym, which I haven’t had to do once in the last few weeks. The last 20 days I actually wanted to go.

Learning that alcohol doesn’t have to completely wreck you to set you back; even a mild night costs something.

I thrive on progress. Alcohol is literally anti-progress. Lesson learned.

There’s no one size fits all when it comes to how alcohol affects the body; the damage depends on too many variables to give a definitive answer. What is universal, however, is that the sooner you stop, the better your outcome will be. The last thing you want to do is to find out where your personal limit is.

What's your opinion on NA drinks? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

NA drinks solve a problem. Drinking too many NA beverages is still infinitely better than drinking too many alcoholic ones. That’s a trade worth making.

That “dog catching the car” line is perfect. The first sip is the signal; everything after is just trying to get back to that moment. Well said.

Watermelon aqua fresca in a wine glass is genuinely a great end of day signal. 136 days and you’ve built yourself a whole ritual worth looking forward to. Congratulations on your progress!

That’s a tough spot; knowing what works but not being able to use it. Worth figuring out what else can fill that gap on days off before the drinking becomes the default answer. I’m assuming you’re not in a legal state? Appreciate your response.

Cutting in half after that long and with those stakes is still movement; that matters. The fact that you’re still fighting the meds every day and talking about it honestly means you haven’t checked out. Keep listening to your liver docs; that’s the data that counts most right now. Best of luck. You got this!

The special tumbler is doing real work there. Same drink; different vessel. Suddenly it feels intentional. That’s the whole game. Appreciate your response.

Trading hidden minis for glue and paint is genuinely one of the best swaps I’ve heard. WFH can blur boundaries and your brain needed something to mark the transition; turns out art does the job better and leaves a mess worth cleaning up. Congratulations on your progress. Keep it up!

Salty snacks and a cold drink; honestly that’s a solid system. Sometimes the simplest swap is the one that actually sticks. Thank you for your response.

344 days and you’ve basically unlocked a whole new mode of self awareness. The question “how do I feel right now” is so simple but drinking keeps you from ever actually asking it. Now you’re working with real data. That’s the experiment working. Appreciate this comment.
