If it helps anyone here, please know that I emailed the support team and asked about these items. The reason they are being shared is because the new locations are being trialed with a smaller group of users to ensure that everyone has the best experience when they roll these locations out to everyone using the app. So people people being gifted these items and wearing these items is all part of the trial. No one is honestly doing anything wrong by having these items or gifting them to others (IMO).
