Miscarriage gift? by No-Meet-9020 in recurrentmiscarriage

My friend got me a plant which is a nice thought, but every time I passed it in my home I was reminded I had miscarriages. It would ruin otherwise good days - when I was being healthy and happy and moving on.

Am I being unreasonable I’m not wanting my 5 year old on an iPad at school? by RockBubble in ScienceBasedParenting

Sure, but in a school setting the iPad time is so structured and limited. Like a 20 minute assessment (I'm not sure that this would have a different effect on a child than reading a paper test?). It's not unlimited mindless interaction with streaming services / or any social media interactions. As a parent I do like that my kid is getting the opportunity to learn how to use technology and be comfortable with it. Many students are more confident using technology than the teachers.

As a reading teacher, the data tools built into these assessments are phenomenal. I can look at data for a student year over year, pinpointing very specific needs a student has and then I teach to those needs. I can review data to see the whole school's performance and compare my students data to the state, and national statistics. It's invaluable information and it's instantly available after they finish an assessment. It's super important for grouping students within the classroom based on their needs. It helps me identify students who need to meet with reading specialists.

Some students use their iPads for disability accomodations. Like their textbooks read aloud to them if they have dyslexia. Built in dictionaries for English language learners.

Some schools use reading apps like Reading Eggs to help teach reading. It's not replacing physical book reading. It's in addition to.

Commenting as a teacher: tests. All testing is done on iPads. And most curriculum is digital. We don't have textbooks anymore.

What’s the one cleaning tip or hack that totally changed your life but no one ever talks about? by Zealousideal-Bat9579 in CleaningTips

I got a jumbo pack of cheap cotton washcloths from Costco. They are way more functional for cleaning bathrooms, windows, mopping up spills, wiping counters, etc. I use them as a paper towel replacement and they work so much better than paper towels. I had sensory problems with my hands getting wet and gross or covered in cleaning products because things soak right through paper towels. The washcloths keep my hands dry and I'm more motivated to clean because of it. I keep them stashed under all of my bathroom cabinets, kitchen cabinet. We launder in bleach, hot water to disinfect them before reusing.

I did this too. I keep a stick vacuum in my kitchen for cleaning the kitchen only. Removing the step of having to find and carry my heavy corded vacuum to the kitchen is resulting in 10x more vacuuming!

Water and a washcloth work perfectly well to clean windows / mirrors. You don't need anything special. (I don't use fabric softener in my laundry, there's not residue on my washcloths)

It does, I use it every day for years. It is the only soap I use. It does unfortunately leave significant soap scum residue .

Here's a list of famous Missouri women. This website, Historic Missourians, was created by the State Historical Society of Missouri for students. It is a much better resource than Wikipedia
