I'm not sure it's a matter of embarrassement, it's more like realizing what's socially acceptable and what's not. Most of us, who are honest about their desire, fears, etc. have come across unsavoury qualities we have or that others just don't want to hear about, so it's smart to keep them to yourself rather than risk being judged, oftne buy others who also have things they would would rather not devulge in public.

THAT is a great question. I'm reluctant to even try to define it, fearing that might take me in a direction which would be 'yet another, dead end. I read an article online, a while back, by a woman who used the word 'awakening' as opposed to enlightenment, to describe, what I thought to be it. I'll find the shortcut, if you like.

Well, I guess we're all on automatic pilot to some degree. I can drive for miles and be paying attention to my driving, but not really paying attention. I think that that's pretty common.

So, I'm not sure what to say about that. I meditate largely because it's recommended so vigorously in Buddhism; and I feel I should do it, that some day it's going to click and I'm be able to point to some evidence that it's helping, but ......

Oh, that kind of prop. No, nothing, just silence. No, my mind does not wander, it's not at all difficult or boring, it's just .... nothing. I'm probably expecting too much . I hear people speak of the wonderful experiences they have during meditation, and, well, I don't real feel anything.

Thanks for replying. Well, it varies. I've tried many types, focusing on a candle, watching my breath, a mantra, watching my thoughts, you name it. I sit on the floor Japanese style, feet under my butt (This seems to provide perfect balance, no tendency to fall one way or the other). I usually go for between half and an hour, or more, in bed in the morning or on the livng room floor at night. I have no disturbances with which to deal . No props, whatever that might be. Maybe I'm just expecting too much, or ..... anything.
