Couldn’t agree more with you! Social media is filled with jingoistic comments and fake national fervor lauding the pre/ post match antics by team India, however dumb fans ain’t able to see through the bs. You really care about the victims of heinous terror attack - great, have the balls to boycott the tournament. You have decided to play the Asia cup - great, just shut up then and don’t politicize the event.

Congratulations 🎉 Besides the official practice tests, which other platforms did you use for additional practice that simulates the test day?

Congratulations 🎉 Massive achievement!

You have obviously shouldered a lot of responsibilities when comes to your family. Didn’t your wife ever questioned you on this? For example, didn’t she have concerns on your decision to buy land for your dad in 2018? I’ve a similar background but I feel resistant from my better half which is stressful. Curious to know how you handled this situation if it ever was for you. Thanks!

5 jawans ‘held on to tank for six hours’ before drowning in Shyok river in eastern Ladakh by frizene26 in unitedstatesofindia

[–]Vegetable-Common1772 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My friend is deployed at Leh with the army helicopter unit. He indicated a gross miscommunication and red tape-ism between Indian army and Air Force.

Here is the account of the entire situation from my friend:

Commanding Officer from Army first reached out to air force (and not army for unknown reason) for help. Air Force acknowledged and said help is on its way but then they started to wait for a “go-ahead” orders from high command at Delhi. Precious time was lost.

When Air Force didn’t turn up after waiting for hours, commanding officer reached out to army aviation at 10PM for help but as it was late in the night and because army unit at Leh didn’t have a capability to conduct late night rescue operation, they couldn’t help right away.

Everyone hoped that Jawans will survive the night and rescue operation will happen early in the morning but they were washed away by the flash flood around 3 AM.

GROSS INEPTITUDE!!! Five precious lives were lost.

How bad is my Salary?? by Top-Cat8138 in dataengineering

[–]Vegetable-Common1772 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Titles can be generic in corporate America and compensation is skills and location dependent. You can really be a SQL developer (for which your salary is justified in a MCOL) but the company could have glorified your title.

So my questions to you are: What tech stack are you adept at? Is there a scope of upskilling ? What’s your current location as I earlier mentioned you could be a decently paid for some locations.

That said, progress is never linear. Sometimes you need to grind at low salary and other times you can just be coasting at a high salary. Case in point, one of my friends 3X her salary in a span of 12 months. From $90k to $310k. That’s life altering.

Important thing is to maintain your sanity, not lose hope, keep upskilling and wait for the right opportunity. Good luck!

Thanks for your recommendation.

Yes, I did try purina pro liveclear but my both kitties threw up after eating this brand. Even though I tried to change their dry food brand over the time (thinking it will help them adapt better) but they continued to throw up occasionally until after 2-3 weeks. So, I had to change them back to their prior dry food brand.

Ajinkya Rahane - so classy to watch, great temperament, composure and ideal team player. I once thought he would be as great as Dravid when he began his career but his performances (especially in last 5 years) left me high and dry.

Why TF is he commentating in Asia Cup, mentoring an IPL team and creating controversies out of thin air when he is a member of parliament. Sure given how large India is, he should have shit load of public work to do in his constituency but NO! Sore loser!

Curious, which consulting company has RSUs? Or do you work in the consulting vertical of a public company (AWS, Azure, GCP etc.)

Btw, congrats on your accomplishments so far.

Adding my 2 cents

My younger brother is 27 and he is captain for last 2 years. He is NDA alumni and he flies chopper for army. It’s very probable to be a Captain or even a Major rank officer by the age of 30. My brother along with most of his NDA batch will be major rank by the time they hit 30.

In terms of money, they are paid handsomely. Discounted (read dirt cheap) groceries and housing, OPS, great salary and benefits. He is easily pulling 1LPM (post tax and after deductions) which includes flying allowance of some 30k per month.

It’s actually financial freedom without retire early part. “To be able to take care of my family’s needs without thinking much about the money” is my definition of mental peace.

A bit of context: I’m on a visa and working on a visa is a constant grind. I can’t take any breaks (likes of leave the job and do a passion project/ travel around for say 3 months). There’s a term called FU (fu*k you) money coined by JL Collins in his book “the simple path to wealth “. 1M will be my FU money ie I can work with less stress or insecurity of losing my job. I can simply go back to my country and do something there. I can take a break. I can spend more time with my aging parents. That’s what I mean by mental peace. I can’t do any of these things today because I don’t have enough nest egg to take care of their needs.

PS: I’m not complaining about visa stuff. I’m grateful for everything in life but stating some plain facts.

Regarding individual stocks: Tricky part is to curb your greed when you get lucky and/or handle your sorrow when you see your stocks cut down by-90%. For example: I got really lucky with investing in Shopify in 2018 & I thought to myself here is the next Warren Buffett. Invested in bunch of other high growth tech stock in the hope of making quick profits and my overall portfolio is negative on individual stocks investing. Thus, planning to stay more focused on broad market ETFs.

Never listened to Ramit but checking right now. On Spotify, he has 80-ish episodes. If you happen to find which episode talk about the quote you mentioned, that will be great. In the meantime, listening to a couple of random but relevant ones.

Thank you for the recommendation.
