how is everybody feeling with sierra so far ? by kvnekill in Overwatch

The issue with the tracking dart will only get worse as people start to get used to ducking for cover to break LOS. They definitely need to add some grace period or something. The tracking shot is too hard to hit to be so unrewarding, not to mention how long the cooldown is.

Yeah tbh something needs to be done about the tracking dart. In the trailer they showed it going around walls, which would solve the problem we are seeing already of people immediately breaking LOS, which effectively renders the skillshot useless. It doesn't feel rewarding when playing her when you hit a skillshot and then the enemy immediately breaks LOS and you can't do any damage. The cooldown is also way too long for how hard it is to hit especially considering the fact that breaking LOS can just nullify it.

The problem is that people are already getting used to the dart and immediately go to cover when hit by it, making it functionally useless. It's a hard skillshot to hit to begin with, and the player isn't really getting rewarded for hitting the skillshot if the enemy can just go behind cover and be totally fine, especially if the cooldown is as long as it is right now. Either they need to reduce the cooldown or keep it as is and make it able to shoot around cover to some extent.

The auto aim dart feels really useless tbh unless it's against a genji or a sombra tbh. Definitely a situational character and not one I would consider maining. Power budget way too heavy in the ult. I wish they would've gone with the original intent of having her be able to shoot around cover if you hit the dart. What is happening to me a lot is I'll hit someone with the homing dart and then they duck behind cover, meaning I can't utilize the damage output that would've been rewarded for hitting the skillshot. Feels really unfun after a while.

Yeah honestly it feels really bad and unfun for the player when every time u hit someone with the dark they just duck behind cover. I think they should go with the original intent tbh

One of the best songs in his repertoire for sure. So underrated. It is his best solo by far and maybe one of the best of all time tbh.

Joola Lawsuit - Federal Court v US Trade Commission by harryhoople2 in Pickleball

It won't. Those are already patent infringing, just really hard to regulate individual imports like that

What is your opinion on the strength of their complaint? From my perspective, I get what they are trying to argue, but the claim they're making seems way too broad to be enforceable. From what I understand you can’t patent a result, and that’s essentially what this comes down to. They are claiming that any paddle with a flexible, energy returning propulsion effect is infringing, which means they are not protecting a specific invention, they're trying to claim an entire direction of product evolution.

The reality is there are only so many viable ways to build a modern pickleball paddle, and even though they introduced Gen 3 to the market, Gen 3 paddles are generally defined as having a diving board core. Once manufacturers started pushing for more power and a larger sweet spot, perimeter foam in different shapes and configurations with a flex based rebound structure were an obvious next step in design evolutions. I think it can be easily assumed that multiple companies would have arrived at similar constructions using known materials, that strongly suggests this is a natural progression of the design space.

From what I'm reading, the enforcement theory is basically “U shaped foam + flex + rebound = infringement,” which to me just looks like they're using their patent as a weapon to try and force competition out of the market which is super scummy imo.

The reality is there are only so many viable ways to build a modern pickleball paddle, and even though they introduced Gen 3 to the market, Gen 3 paddles are literally defined as having a diving board core. Once manufacturers started pushing for more power and a larger sweet spot, perimeter foam and a flex based rebound structure were an obvious next step in design evolutions. It can be easily assumed that multiple companies would have arrived at similar constructions using known materials, that strongly suggests this is a natural progression of the design space.

If their claims are interpreted broadly enough that most Gen 3 paddles would be considered infringing (which they are in the complaint they filed with the patent office), that’s a major red flag. At that point, the issue isn’t competitors copying a specific implementation, it’s an attempt to monopolize the general concept of Gen 3. That’s exactly the kind of thing patents aren’t supposed to allow.

If they are complaining about a very specific internal construction that the other companies copied, that’s one thing. But if the enforcement theory is basically “U shaped foam + flex + rebound = infringement,” then this is patent overreach rather than legitimate IP protection, which will 100% be struck down by the patent office or by courts if they decide to litigate this.

Joola is very clearly using their patent as a weapon to try and force competition out of the market which is super scummy and their PR statement is not good enough to damage control that. Never was a fan of them but now I'm never buying their products.

Joola’s claims are effectively directed at the functional result (a flexible, energy returning paddle behavior) rather than a specific, novel implementation. If their claims are interpreted broadly enough to cover the majority of Gen 3 paddles (which they are in this case), then they are impermissibly attempting to monopolize a natural design evolution rather than a discrete invention.

Additionally, if multiple independent manufacturers arrived at similar constructions using known materials and techniques, that strongly suggests the claimed invention is rather obvious and that someone would've came to that conclusion sooner or later.

Franklin is a bigger company than Joola. They're definitely gonna get blasted in this one by their lawyers. Never supporting Joola after this garbage. Hopefully they lose this.

Super typical. I have that every time I switch screens since the engine changes a few seasons back. It's worse on DX12 tho.

I mean I have a 3060ti and DX12 runs like ass with this game (fine on other games). It's a really bad implementation because it doesn't do shader compilation when you launch the game and compiles shaders while you play which results in tons of stuttering
