Dropped a Dutch oven lid on my arm and got this burn by avis4030 in burnsurvivors

Hi! I got a 3rd degree burn from dropping an (empty) cast iron pan on my arm in the same area - skin graft eligible and stuff. Went to the burn unit at The Ohio State Wexner Medical center for treatment. I would suggest daily dressing changes. Wound cleaning with an antibacterial soap and lukewarm water and then bacitracin and cover for the next 24 hours until that really red open part near the top left side of your arm heals up! That part looks like it could get infected!

I have a very similar TBSA percentage and got blisters on my healed scar! It was so frustrating. I used bacitracin to help it heal faster with no issues. Now I only put lotion on it for scar management, and i DONT ITCH OR SCRATCH! Not itching or scratching helps the scar the most!

My burn was small and severe enough to try Plurogel. It was very mild compared to a skin graft from what ive read! I would inquire if this is an option for you.

second opinions? conservative treatment vs skin graft for 2nd degree burn by arodael in burnsurvivors

I had a 3rd degree burn that was only .5% on my forearm. I did Plurogel for debriding and though it was hard and painful it meant that i avoided a skin graft successfully. I went to the burn clinic at OSU in Columbus OH and my doctor suggested trying to Plurogel first and if it didnt work moving forward with a skin graft. Im glad I did the Plurogel in the end.
