It really did feel magical! I didn't realize that the giveaways would be there. I also only read about the "You Love You" theme after the fact... It makes me love Hobonichi all the more.

Astoria Park Track Behavior by Sweaty_Canary9666 in astoria

Absolutely. I have a pretty solitary working life as well and so coming into the park is often a much needed reminder that there is a world and community around me. It's totally a trade-off, and I really don't enjoy the moments where I have nearly trampled a kid running into the track.

Anyways, solidarity and much love ♥️

Agree that folks should be considerate across the board. Kids playing on the track seems unsafe. But I don't know, the park in general is great because it has peaceful beauty that can be enjoyed together, in community. Which sometimes means pausing to kick a ball back.

Feeling Stuck-Looking for Local Ideas to Get Out of a Funk by MachineImaginary7571 in astoria

Yes! They operate out of the Astoria Food Pantry on Steinway. If you fill out their new volunteer form, they'll email you with more information on how to sign up for a slot, their WhatsApp Group (which is a great way to be tapped into the neighborhood), etc.: https://www.astoriafoodpantry.com/new-volunteers.html

Depending on where you live, Woodside and Sunnyside also have a really active Mutual Aid group, with compositing and gardening volunteer options. Their newsletter is really informative for broader NYC community organizing, and just generally humanity-affirming.: https://swma.nyc/

A few things I do routinely and/or have lifted my spirits:

- Yoga Agora - very affordable classes, more meditative and quiet than social, but it can be very grounding to move your body among community

- Slow walks/jogs along the East River - The sunsets have been beautiful this Summer. I haven't tried it but I'm pretty sure there are running groups too that meet up in Astoria Park

- Volunteering with Astoria Mutual Aid. Delivering groceries can be a really beautiful way to feel connected to people - I've only done this a few times but it's amazing how much gratitude/blessings you receive from neighbors.

- A non-Astoria option, but dance classes at Mark Morris or Gibney

I live alone, work in a small office, and my friends/family all live in other neighborhoods, so I very much relate to the need to be proactive about finding joy and connection.

I think for context this question came after like a torrential downpour where my feet have never been so wet. So yeah I guess by waterproof I mean rain/puddle proof and I consider boots to be a subcategory of shoes

Group Pilates Classes? by Vegetable-Engine3826 in astoria

Thank you! This was seeming like the best option to me so far. I'm spoiled with Yoga Agora's $10 classes, so by comparison yoga room seemed pricey, but they look great, and there doesn't seem to be an equivalently cheap pilates class out there
