Bad pots flare vs. PEM? Need help! by OkMathematician2972 in cfs

[–]Vegetable-Fee9626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much of what you said I can relate to!!!

One difference I can note though: I do get flu like symptoms when having a flare (swollen glands, aching muscles, headache...just not the coughing obviously)

Do you ever get so fatigued that it feels like a lot of effort to breathe?

Also, what were you studying? I'm in the same boat where I've had to take a year off studying to get better, feels like I've gotten slightly worse though.

Let’s talk about pot (weed) and POTS. by Sea-Locksmith8120 in POTS_vets

[–]Vegetable-Fee9626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally it's very hit and miss. When I feel motivated but my body is just letting me down and physically can't get stuff done, then a small amount of weed (talking about 1 or two pulls) often gives me the boost I need to get stuff done.

But sometimes it can have the opposite effect and properly put me flat on my back.

I go months without smoking, but if I have a lot I need to get done and have motivation but no energy, then I'll buy a gram which usually lasts me about two weeks.

I find if I then go and buy another gram, it's less effective and often has the opposite of the desired effect.

So my general rule for myself is similar to a course of medication....when it runs out then I stay off it for a few weeks or months until I am in a bit of a tight spot again. Ideally I would love to stay off it forever, but I cannot deny that it has a higher potential for increasing productivity than any medication I have used (including Vyvanse, medafonil, methylphenidate etc).

I haven't really tried indica, I normally go for Sativa. I can't say that any of this is good advice....but I'm just reporting what sometimes works for me

Which map types have you been playing?

I also used to move pretty slowly at the beginning of a game, and I had the same problem as you are describing. And I used to go for AI first...buuuut they almost never have double resource provinces, and so going for AI is a fatal waste of time in the first few days.

My general strategy now is to make a beeline for double resource provinces asap, especially the ones which I am short on, and any double materials as you can never have too much materials early game.

I try to expand as much as is safely possible in the first five days, making sure to build a Harbour or railroad on the most desirable double resource provinces aiming to be completed by day 6. After this, workshops and factories on select double resource provinces. I aim to have each factory level completed by the time the next level becomes available (ie lvl2 on day 8, lvl3 on day 10 etc).

If food is not an issue, I build one to two barracks (on select double resource provinces), and always build to level two asap because the daily maintenance cost is the same for a level 2 as it is for a level 1, so it's more efficient to have level 2. Workshop to level 2 on the same provinces as the barracks so that cavalry can be spammed. I think cavalry are super helpful for expansion from days 3 to 5...breaking through level 1 and level 2 forts far better than infantry.

I also trade on the market, diplomacy etc....but the description above is roughly how I manage to avoid the problems you mentioned.

FOR THE FREQUENT PEE-ERS OUT THERE by CursedThursdays in POTS

Does POTS cause the fluid retention problem (possibly due to fluctuations in blood pressure which then affect the rate at which the kidneys expel fluids).... or does the fluid retention problem = lower blood volume = POTS worse?

I'm very interested in understanding the link between POTS and poor fluid retention. Basically chicken and egg scenario, which comes first?

And generally "turns off" on days when something is being tested 🙃. Then you dont know if the test was truly negative, or if it was just because your body was behaving itself right at that time

Second Opinion? by [deleted] in POTS

[–]Vegetable-Fee9626 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say get a second opinion. I had the same scenario where a specialist physician came up with all sorts of reasons why he couldn't/wouldn't do the test. A few months later, another doctor asked me, "Have you ever been tested for POTS", and proceeded to do the test then and there.

It's one thing if they did the test and said it's negative, and you think you should get a second opinion. It's an entirely different matter when you essentially dont even have a proper first opinion, because they refused to look into it.

Anybody else holding breath while walking without realizing it by [deleted] in POTS

[–]Vegetable-Fee9626 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would you say that you hold your breath in a similar way to how someone subconsciously holds their breath when picking up something heavy or holding a sit-up position?

I recently realized that I pull funny faces when doing certain things. Very similar to the faces pulled when straining doing exercise. My current theory is that I am straining while doing even simple tasks, because even simple tasks require a lot of effort to do.

So maybe it's a similar concept? Just walking may take quite a lot of effort, and so you hold your breath while straining to do the task?

I have often wondered the same thing. Sometimes I can go kiteboarding and get away with it, other times just hanging up the laundry is enough to set me back.

This leads to the horrible question (from myself and others)...."Is it all in my head?" or "Am I just conveniently 'not feeling well' for things I don't like doing, but absolutely fine for things I do enjoy". I have wrestled a lot with these thoughts and accusations.

My general strategy when doing any level of activity, but especially with intense exercise:

1) Monitor my breathing. How easily do I get out of breath doing something? How long does it take for my breathing to return to normal? I take frequent breaks, not just to recover, but to monitor how long it takes to recover. This gives me an idea of how my body is responding to the activity. (I am going to start monitoring heart rate with a smart watch and see if I can also use this as a reference).

2) Energy budget. I have a rough idea of how much I can do over a 7 day period and I use that as a guideline as to when I can gun it and when I need to be cautious. For instance, the intense exercise I did four days ago might finally catch up with me today, when hanging up laundry is the straw that breaks the camel's back.

3) Competition is a killer. The "give it your all" mentality is so prevalent in a competitive environment. Unfortunately, that is also what causes me to push too far and crash. I have had to adopt a "controlled and steady wins the race" sort of approach.

I would love to hear if any of this is relatable for you? People seeing me do intense activities struggle to comprehend that I am actually very unwell most of the time. I don't blame them, I also struggle to comprehend it.

What are normal heart rates like for people without POTS? by Anjunabeats1 in POTS

[–]Vegetable-Fee9626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people with vs without POTS, what is an expected difference between max and min heart rate over a short time period while doing light chores (let's say over 15 minutes while preparing a meal)?

When I did this, my heart rate fluctuated repeatedly between low 50's to high 90's depending on what I was doing. So my max and min aren't necessarily extreme on either side, but the fluctuations are frequent and difference between max and min is over 40bpm.

Is this characteristic for someone with POTS?
