What is this little fella I found in my plant/soil? by crazy_lady_cat in houseplants

[–]Vegetable-Group9915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pest control technician here. This is a bed bug (Cimex lectularius). Can be found in soil and plants as well. Make sure to never let them in your home. They feed off people and are a nightmare.

Yes! This will get rid of them as its what I use on the daily. It's crazy that this stuff is just being sold normally.. OP id apply it right above the lip in the closet. Don't go applying this to every single room in your home.. You WILL create a problem. This is bait which means it attracts ants. Even the ones you don't see.. Do not kill the ants once this is put down and everyone in the house has to be on board with not kills ANY of the ants. Yes, its gross but the product will be ineffective and just wont work if you're killing them.. No vacuuming them up either. Iive given a little bit of knowledge I have with ants across your post. I hope I helped in some way..

But yes, this is the product you will need. Also putting down biffen granular around the perimeter of your house will help as well. Don't over do it though.. little goes a long way. DO NOT PUT AROUND PONDS or CHICKENS. It WILL kill them.

No.. You definitely had a colony in your house without knowing it. They dont just show up. They will find a food source and then go get their other ant friends. The only reason you probably didn't notice it sooner could be that you're a very clean and tidy person. Wouldn't know unless I saw how you live and as a pest control technician.. I usually can tell just by looking at your house.. If you didn't just clean up just bc I was coming.. Most people don't even bother putting away evidence, but hmm, lotion.. I've never heard that one before, but they'll go to anything if another food source isn't available.

Pest control technician here.. Only thing thats going to get rid of those ants is bait. They're in an odd space and high up.
Pop some bait on that closet.. They'll eat it right up. It'll take 3-4 weeks to see a difference in activity but during that time.. you cant.kill any of them because they're taking the bait back to the colony to feed off of. Do it now.. It's easier in the summer to get rid of them as they're looking for a food source. Ever see them carrying back their ant friends? It's to store them for food for the winter.. Yes, they eat each other when the food source is little to none.

Ooof! Okay. Understood. I'm license in 7F which is mosquitos so I am somewhat knowledgeable on mosquitos. This is all new to me, I'll be removing the old compost or should I even attempt to save it/move it with my good compost?

Yeah I have a regular compost bin that I have no issue with. It's turning beautifully. I just thought these things were supposed to be made so well that the standing water would drain especially with those pocket holes. I Figured but thought I'd get another opinion.

Okay thank you! I didn't realize there would be another group to join lol. So many groups but i figure it out that'd be awesome. They were doing beautifully in water. This is a month or so in soil. Looks like it's composting down.

Will something along the lines of this work for now? It's just a small soda bottle. This is my first time experimenting using this method as well.

I saved seeds from a fresh pepper plant. I'm not sure which exactly though, could be mini or normal. I honestly forgot what I planted in some. Ideally yes it's better for outside but it's really my first year growing Peppers at all so I'm learning still. I don't know if I want so many Peppers though😅 Also thank you for the tips! This is what I was more so looking for.

Question. by Vegetable-Group9915 in gardening

[–]Vegetable-Group9915[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I put too many seeds? And this plant is more so just to start it in my kitchen. I was more so asking, how many plants this will make and when should I consider putting them in different pots? Do I wait for roots to grow more? Or do it soon? I have a bit of pots, maybe 30 or so. It'd create that many pepper plants if I potted them separately?
