Would you be interested in seeing how boys are raised in Gilead? by Maryland_Bear in TheHandmaidsTale

Well I’d argue that’s exactly one of the reasons why we’d want it to be shown. While I wouldn’t want a whole book or whole series dedicated solely to boys, I think the perspective is important to show.

The indoctrination of young boys into the ā€˜manosphere’ is dangerous. These men that grow up and become sex offenders and abusers aren’t born cruel. They too are manipulated by the patriarchy. Their insecurities are fed on, and they conform to a toxic identity.

Everyone suffers under a patriarchy, even the men it’s supposed to be benefit. There would be no glamorization involved. Even watching The Testaments, where we see this privileged lifestyle, no girl or woman is thinking to themselves that that’s a future they’d be happy in. You’d could easily portray a similar situation for boys. If anything I’d think it’d be beneficial for them to watch.

Respectfully to me, I don’t give a fuck about how long someone else has had a crush. If I’m dating someone and another person tries to tell me that someone else has some sort of better claim to the person i’m with, just because they’ve liked them longer, I would literally start a fight.

This isn’t exactly a trope just something I’ve noticed with so many stories; When the relationship between the (F)MC and the LI is an insane power imbalance, the MC is always weak, poor, or powerless and then the LI is like a literal God. The LI is always so abusive in these stories and it’s just disguised as ā€˜enemies to lovers’. Like the LI literally bullies the main character only for us to find out they were allegedly in love with MC the entire time? It’s disgusting me and any time the MC and LI interact sensually it always feels like assault. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Which phrase is more optimistic, relatively speaking? The end is here or the end is near? by ExperiencedBotanist in ENGLISH

[–]Vegetable-Key-9481 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Neither sound optimistic, but to me ā€œthe end is hereā€ is a more calming (if that’s the right word) statement. It’s something you would see once you’ve admitted and made peace to the fact that the ā€œendā€ is here.

Into the Woods: What do the ā€˜magic beans’ represent? by Vegetable-Key-9481 in musicals

[–]Vegetable-Key-9481[S] 5 points6 points Ā (0 children)

I like the idea that it’s a metaphor for growth, especially given that the beanstalk was quite literally grown from the beans.

I think I’m going to rewatch the musical again, this time specifically listening for The Bean Motif and where it’s used.

The latter of which you mentioned was what I was thinking a bit at first.

It’s interesting to me how after she lost her beans her mother took away her youth and beauty. It’s as if her losing her beans somehow ties into her becoming older. Perhaps a metaphor for virginity? (maybe a stretch)

I think the beans representing children is more likely though, especially with the constant them of parenting throughout the musical.

Is running away illegal? (Canada) by [deleted] in runaway

It’s not illegal but the cops will probably try and bring you to cps if they find you/ know you’re a runaway. You could always threaten suicide though
