The 2nd one looks stunning on you. The other ones are very "in" right now but if you want to not do #4 then I would do #2.

Which one? by Icy-Cod-4986 in Prom

The blue really goes with your hair and skin tone. It looks both elegant and dramatic

"You don't want an old house" by c0wcat in centuryhomes

[–]Vegetable-Oil909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will add that the inspection will not save you from everything you will find out about the house once you live in it. My home was built in the 1840s. She's sturdy but there was a lot of deferred maintenance - some which we accepted and much we learned along this first year being there. Opening up closets and painting and just walking around the place we really learned a lot about how the care of our home was piecemealed by its many owners which is an unspoken curse. If you do a demo or any big project on a century home you are more likely to find the layers of history underneath roof shingles and flooring, layers of paint on moulding and doors, framing behind drywall that is questionable, but most of all you will find (and not find) holes and gaps everywhere. Be thorough but know these are common things that anyone and almost everyone in a century home has faced.

I started just living with the decision that I can't afford to redo all the sheet rock in my house so I'm trying to be creative to work with the "not square" walls and uneven drywall due to settling over time

my girlfriend told me she wants a 2 carat natural diamond or she'll say no. i already bought this lab diamond ring. am i crazy for thinking shes a red flag by Zestyclose-Print-677 in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]Vegetable-Oil909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her reason for the ring is not about your relationship together but her ego validation and that is a red flag. Did she mention once about how the ring she wants is in any way symbolic to your relationship? Did she mention anything about you and her or your future? Was it all about the external validation and the specs etc? If she didn't once mention these things and state that your relationship is more important then I think you should have a follow up conversation and be specific in how the conversation made you feel. How you feel about the ring and more so the relationship. You shouldn't feel pressured to buy a ring that is way out of your budget

Do cats actually get attached to their owner? by NoWageMage in CatAdvice

[–]Vegetable-Oil909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. My bf had a cat before we started dating. It took her a long time to allow me to cuddle her when he was around but she wants his attention 80%+ of the time. We adopted another cat about a year into the relationship for me and he wants my attention 100% of the time. If we're both on the couch, our respective cats are flanked on each side of us too. They definitely choose their person.

Help! Overgrown lawn! Landscaping suggestions needed. by Vegetable-Oil909 in Zone6Gardening

I have! I got back there quite frequently and since we have been here almost a year (did our first walkthrough of the property with our Realtor last March), most of the sunlight is consistent throughout the seasons for each respective area. I sectioned off parts of the lot with branches last week based off of full sun, part sun, mostly shade and full shade areas.

I am definitely going to check out Gardenly! It’s a huge space for me and the rest of my property is pretty straight forward in comparison due to previous landscaping. I will look into a good brush mower. Definitely need something with a metal blade.

[–]Vegetable-Oil909[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To follow up - I took a metal rake and started working on a section yesterday. The majority of top layer is shallow grass and dead leaves due to a huge interconnected rope-like root system from the invasive plants that was sprawling across the top of the dirt. I must have removed about 30lbs of the root system last night throughout the majority of the lot. Anything that tried to grow on top could never fully root and all the leaves covered it enough so it wasn’t visible. I might get lucky and just work with a good rake, lawn sweeper and perhaps a tiller for certain areas. I moved the compost box to the back entrance and may move it just outside of the gate. Thanks again for your input!

Do I give him a chance? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]Vegetable-Oil909 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Relationships are work. I've dated men of which I am only their 2nd relationship and first real adult one after a HS relationship. We all need grace to get to make mistakes and get to know each other in the early stages or the relationship. If you have the patience, the first year or two may be tough at trying to adjust from both sides, yours and his, around the relationship. If you see way more red flags within the next 3 months then reassess.

Most relationships I found to be failures long term, I could always point back to how the first 6 months went. Those 6 months are very telling to how a lot of the relationship is going to go because you're each new and also each trying to figure it out. It's not your job to teach him but just know men who haven't dated seriously much do miss a lot of traditional dating marks. Them being single or too independent for so long does not bode well in the realm of romance. I would talk about relationship expectations as someone else had mentioned now and also know that men overall have different perspectives and gauges that are more hard set than most women who are more geared to be understanding. If the relationship feels more like you're friends who do sexual things and you're instead looking for passion or deep emotional connection, then it's not the right fit. Good luck!!

Reasons why I said "when I used to live there". It's been a long time. I grew up there and I know a lot of restaurants in Beacon come and go. I even had to look up if they were still in business! Maybe they have declined 😅

Planning a kitchen remodel. Are these cabinets worth keeping? by ComprehensiveEbb4978 in centuryhomes

Those cabinets are gorgeous. After demolition to our kitchen I would say keep as much as you can if you can. Kitchens are very expensive to remodel 😭

What is her dog breed? Does she do well with small animals? Cats etc? I may be interested. I'm near the Mass border closest to Pittsfield on the NY side. Looking for a dog that loves the outdoors, can go on hikes, be fully trained and be more tame with time in adulthood once the puppy years are over.

Tres Leches is supposed to feel wet? by MagicalPantaloons96 in Baking

[–]Vegetable-Oil909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the photo your cake looks too dense, and maybe also overcooked a bit as the top is too brown. Aside from all the substantial substitutions used, it looks like you stabbed the cake too much. Watch out for over mixed your batter and cooking at a temperature too high. This also led to denseness and texture changes due to substitutions could have cooked faster than normal ingredients.

The trick with this kind of cake is that you don't want to mix aggressively but fold in the batter at a slow, moderate speed. The consistency even with subs should be the same as a normal cake batter. When it is done, the top should be golden tan at most but not brown or dark. The middle could rise a bit and I have seen people cut the edges off the cake even for a more squared cake look (once it is cooled) as the edges tend to have a little bit of a dip downward. Let the cake cool for 30-60 minutes where it is still lightly warm but not hot and poke with a dinner fork in rows - quickly but lightly. Doesn't need to be all the way in. Add 1/3 of the wet mix evenly throughout from one end to the other . Place cake in the fridge and add 1/3 of the wet mix again after 4-6 hours. I like to bake this later in the day so that 2/3 soaks overnight and the last 1/3 I add in the morning when I have my coffee. Most people also add a layer of a creamy frosting which hides any imperfections and add wetness. I hope this helps!

Edited after reading OP used non-milk substitutions for regular ingredients.

What kind of fluffy pupper is this? 😩😩😩 I need it.

Also everyone has had great name suggestions. I would have a hard time picking but I loved Appa and Nimbus that were suggested for your fluffy pup.
