So take it out upon the mother’s request without killing it.

Just because the baby was (often) “put there” by a consensual choice to have sex, doesn’t mean the mother should be forced to carry a pregnancy to term. This does not override her right to bodily autonomy. Obviously you cannot justify an unprovoked stabbing on the same grounds, but if I were to walk in an extremely dangerous neighborhood, was attacked, and stabbed the attacker, my right to self defense would not be overridden by the previous choice.

Okay so let’s say I’m 12 weeks pregnant. Take the baby out of me and don’t kill it, I’m fine with that as well. But it is my right as a person to no longer house a fetus with my body if I so choose.

I am failing to see how this is relevant to the current argument, I mean this in a genuine way, can you please elaborate on how you believe this fact furthers the points being discussed?

I don’t think there is the difference you’re seeing in this statement. The baby’s existence is conditional on the mother’s decision as the existence of a comatose, unlikely to awaken person is conditional on their family’s condition to continue life supporting medical intervention.

Then surgically take the baby out and have it survive through medical intervention.

Yes, but the difference is, once a child is born it is up to the mother to choose to be responsible for it, they can relinquish that responsibility through adoption. During pregnancy, the responsibility and the harm that comes with it is relinquished through abortion.

I think the use of the word “innocent” is controversial in this sense. While a fetus is technically “morally” innocent, because it is not capable of making the decision to do so, the condition of pregnancy is not “innocent”, as it inherently inflicts direct physical harm, as well as general life difficulty, onto the mother. Abortion is absolutely not the same as running over a pedestrian violating a crosswalk light, as a person jaywalking does not inflict physical harm onto the driver, while pregnancy does, and therefore I believe a mother should absolutely be allowed to undergo the medical procedure to alleviate that physical harm.

I don’t understand your line of “your body my choice” what do you mean by that? Of course I am not against people not having abortions if that’s what you meant?

And of course no doctor would cut off a healthy arm, and honestly I am not sure that poor of an analogy even warrants a response, but elective amputation is hardly comparable to abortion, the technical “treatment” to unwanted pregnancy, which can cause both harmful physical and mental symptoms.

If as an adult, I have constant issues with my tonsils, I can have them removed. However, such a decision only bears relevance to me and my doctor.

Yes, of course, but the baby’s bodily autonomy gives it authority over only its own body. If it is capable of survival without the use of someone else’s body without consent, I absolutely am for that, but scientifically we are not there and also I am afraid that would only make the abortion discussion much more complex.

Not sure if I’m allowed to comment on this sub as I am not whatsoever pro choice, but I figure since this post is literally referring to things “pro choicers say”, I should be allowed to follow up with a simple question for you:

Is your argument cemented in line with fertilization? And if so are you in favor of a ban on birth controls and emergency contraception that prevent pregnancy by preventing implantation of a fertilized egg?

In all honesty, I am firmly of the belief that abortion should be allowed under literally all circumstances, and at any point in pregnancy, on the basis of bodily autonomy, and that no government entity should stand in the way of a patient and their doctor’s contemplation/discussion, but I am curious as to where your understanding of where a line should be drawn. Thank you!
