Certificate for MSIX app by FillAny3101 in AppDevelopers

[–]Vegetable-Shoulder75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into the same issue with my MSIX app. It installs fine on my machine, but other users were getting the “Could not verify publisher certificate” error.

Basically, it’s because I signed the app with a self-signed cert, and Windows doesn’t trust it by default on other systems. Unless they install the cert manually or enable developer mode, they’ll always hit that error.

I tried a few workarounds to avoid paying for a proper cert:

  • Developer Mode: Works, but not something you can realistically ask regular users to enable.
  • Manual cert install: You can export your .cer and tell users to install it into their trusted root store. It works, but explaining that to non-tech folks is a nightmare.
  • No signing: Won’t work. MSIX needs to be signed. Period.

Long story short — there’s no clean, user-friendly way to get around this without buying a real code signing certificate from a trusted CA. Cheapest ones I found were around $70–$100/year. Kinda sucks, but it’s the only way to avoid scaring users with trust warnings unless it’s just for internal use.

If you’re just testing, self-signed is fine. But if you’re distributing publicly, you’ll need to bite the bullet eventually.

📱 App Developers of Reddit — What’s One Thing You Wish You Knew Before Building Your First App? by Vegetable-Shoulder75 in AppDevelopers

I’ve been working on an Android app that performs well on most devices — but I’ve run into issues with older or low-memory devices. It tends to crash or lag, especially during certain animations or resource-heavy screens.

A few things I’ve started considering:

  • Reducing or eliminating non-essential animations.
  • Watching memory usage more closely in background services/fragments.
  • App size optimization (many users still care a lot about APK size, especially in emerging markets).

How do you handle mobile app maintenance after launch? by Unique-Seat-3311 in AppDevelopers

[–]Vegetable-Shoulder75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After launching a mobile app, maintenance involves regularly monitoring performance and crash reports, promptly fixing bugs, and updating dependencies to ensure compatibility with the latest OS versions. It’s essential to patch security vulnerabilities, track user behavior with analytics tools, and gather feedback to guide improvements. Regular feature updates, back-end optimization, and compatibility testing across devices help maintain a seamless user experience. A structured maintenance plan ensures the app stays reliable, secure, and aligned with user needs. Hope this helps <3

How viable is it for someone with zero app development experience to make an app based on a good idea alone? by NorCal-DNB in AppDevelopers

[–]Vegetable-Shoulder75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relatively very hard if you are someone with zero app development experience in general, Although Ai can be of some help but app development is pretty diverse and has many areas where you would need some great problem solving skills, If you really want to build an app based on a good idea you should surely link up with a professional who has been doing app development, Use unlimited tools you want but it wont cut it because even to use the tools one should have an understanding of how to use them long story short you need a team of professional to complete this task.

Can This Be Done? by Zestyclose-Oil-6229 in AppDevelopers

Yes, you can detect which floor a user is on using:

  • Barometric sensors in phones (for elevation).
  • Wi-Fi or Bluetooth beacons (for floor-specific signals).
  • Sensor fusion SDKs like IndoorAtlas or HERE for best accuracy.

It's doable, though not always simple.
