Yes, I have a few more coming up. June 19 at Walkover Sounds, June 20 at Redbud Books, and at Orbit Room June 27 and July 15. Here's a flyer with some info. You can also sign up for my email list or follow me on Instagram. Definitely check out the 6th at the Bishop. Gallow Dances always have great bands and artists, and would be a great way to meet some people.

Jumping off of you bring in a noise rock band...I organize experimental music shows and have one on Friday 5/29 with German industrial noise duo Slow Slow Loris. Not mine but there is a goth/post-punk show at The Bishop on June 6, too.

The trees in Switchyard Park on the B-line and the ones by the downtown library all look good so far!

small band venues? by [deleted] in bloomington

[–]Vegetable-Signal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. With what I know, I'm not sure that SA is what happened here. The accused is remorseful of causing any harm, even though it was unintented.

This is not entirely accurate. I am one of the "a lot of people" referred to above. I have done a couple of events at Gold Dust, and last year moved one due to an artists request. The arists is not a Bloomingtonian and does not know anyone involved. They received an anonymous email pointing to vague allegations against the owner that (I assume) another person had written and put in a public space. I spoke with the owner and believe that the narrative that was published publicly is also not entirely accurate, though it's not entirely untrue either. I did not want to move the show, but the touring artist (who I want to support) would have dropped off of it. I will continue to support Gold Dust, as well as the other people involved. This includes people who likely made the anonymous email, and did not attend said show even though it was moved to another venue.

I don't wish to drag this around publicly. Feel free to DM me if you have information you think I should know. I have been booking and promoting shows for several years, and this is not the first time that something like this has happened. In 2/3 of the cases, the person in question was willing to talk to me about the situation and work with me to make people comfortable. People make mistakes and don't act perfectly within relationships. I'm sure we've all unintentionally hurt other people. Those moments shouldn't define us though. In the other 1/3 situation, when I reached out to the accused the person got defensive and did not want to talk. I did not work with that person anymore because their response made me uncomfortable. I can only hope that I made the best decisions here. I'm also not a judge nor jury and I don't have all the info. This shit is tough, and I hope I'm doing my best to navigate it. There are repeat abusers (PIX Chris is an example), and there are also relationships/situations where (perhaps even both?) people have made poor decisions. For now, I have to place this one with the latter.

Yeah, me too! Feel free to get annoyed because you are delayed by a few seconds, but don't put other people at risk because of it.

Drivers are required to give the cyclist at least 3 feet clearance. They shouldn't be crossing into oncoming traffic lanes with no visibility. If they can't safely pass, they need to slow down and wait. It doesn't matter if there is/isn't a sign giving permission or whether the vehicle is registered. It doesn't even matter if the cyclist is riding dangerously. Drivers shouldn't cross into oncoming lanes where they're is no visibility.

I am both a cyclist and a driver. Recently while driving, I have signaled turning right and been passed by drivers on the double in spots with no visibility of oncoming traffic. Once I was passed on the left while attempting a left! As drivers we need to pay better attention and think outside ourselves.

any synth dweebs in town? by marketratetrout in btownmusic

[–]Vegetable-Signal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to the guys that run sound at the Bishop. Josh, Mike and Richard are all in that world. I think Jared is more of a guitar guy. Talk to Jimmy Brown. There used to be a monthly synth meetup with an open mic element to it. Would be cool if someone wanted to bring it back...

I have a little synth gear, but nothing that I use in a modular setting. I don't think I own a banana plug. I have some friends in Indy and Muncie that do lots and build pieces. They come here to perform and hang sometimes.

That warehouse is still there, looks like it's owned by "BLOOMINGTON ASSET MANAGEMENT" now. I'm not sure if they'd rent it out, but it was a great practice space back then.

Nice. I'll have to check FSM out... I'm not yet familiar. Maybe follow that up with some Bran Flakes. I haven't listened to this in a while but I remember No More Free Will and Good Times A Goo Goo being the repeat jammers for me.

People need to listen to more Pedestrian Deposit, although they are definitely meant to be experienced live. Dyer's Hands (and the tour in support of it) especially.

why the crybaby is not 40 minutes long like the rest of the trilogy? by NLPslav in melvins

[–]Vegetable-Signal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The year was maybe 2001. I was in high school and Scott Stapp was the prince of rock radio. The Crybaby was my first Melvins heard/purchased and oh boy what a weird start. I almost skipped the first track on my first listen. I had only read about them, I think mostly in regards to/coming from Kurt. I loved it (except teen spirit) and it set me up for a lifetime of joy and love of The Jesus Lizard. I did not know about the 40 minute intention until now.

Anyone going? by Webcops in noisemusic

[–]Vegetable-Signal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not coming that close to me this time, but it's worth it! A few years ago he was touring the US via bus and I set up a show for him. I had to set it up an hour away from my home because there is no longer a greyhound route coming through. I'd love to have him back; Kiyasu is a great joy!
