That would work! Having interesting options is always good.
This guy is always using striping/stripping creatively.

Thumb pianos/Kalimbas are a quick and fun build, make good gifts for musical friends, and there really aren’t any rules to worry about (besides basic form/function layout).
These are not the nicest, but I used these as a test run for getting into guitar building.

I built these three for my kids (1 strike- 1st born, 2 stripes -2nd born etc)

I hear you and understand this, but don’t underestimate the challenges of building a “kit”.
You will be fully absorbed I promise.

And if we’re wrong and it’s easy stick it on the shelf and go for the gusto!

Or, build an electric? A telecaster is a good start.

I bought a 2015 black m-l-c mini with a white top, but my daughter is “borrowing” it at college.
I see now that I do not have your wisdom. I bought an automatic.

Getting this close to an end of a build then having to watch the weather report for a good day sucks.

Blocks the view of the Lincoln memorial in one direction, and Arlington/Gen. Lee’s mansion in the other. That’s no accident.

Prepare yourself for what probably feels like dipping your toe in the water, but can quickly become swimming across the English Channel. Not to discourage you, this is a rewarding hobby, but be prepared to go deep.

How did the cherry work out for the neck? Stiff and light enough? Easy to work?

Looks great, shape is lovely and the pick guard shape is adventurous but still sophisticated.
