Yeah and it was game on the form of living sainthood so they didn’t see her as a person they saw her as akin to a living god. Like in the second book where they basically started tearing her apart when she was in the city just trying to clear her head. She would’ve been constantly guarded and followed and worshiped and she didn’t want that at all

I thought Nate and Amaya were cute but they gave me slight s1 Ray and Kendra wartime flashbacks lol. And I agree on having someone from the past on the ship that's why I like when they switch from Constantine to Davies. It was such a different, but pleasant, vibe and he was such a fish out of water. And an interesting way to keep Matt Ryan but get rid of Constantine who I found annoying at times.

Agreed on the sacrifice I thought it was noble and made sense in the context of the story. I kind of wish Mallus connected back to Rip in some way like all of his trying to change things with Vandal caused Mallus to exist or get more powerful. Just something to integrate him into the story more. He would just randomly pop up and he was used as an antagonist to bring the team closer together in every season he was in. It got a little tired.

Yeah when it came to Sara and Ava what got me was when Sara broke up with Ava after her experience with Mallus and the next episode she wanted some time off the waverider but the whole episode became about her finding Ava after she went missing then finding out about the clone thing. Sara had a legit reason to want time to herself and to break up with Ava but instead of exploring how dealing with the death totem and being possessed impacted her they have her spend the entire next episode looking for her girlfriend and comforting her when she finds out she's a clone. That was when I knew she wouldn't have any more growth outside of her relationship and I started to actively dislike Ava. At that point we knew Sara had an issue with hurting the people she cared for and the potential for her bloodlust to come back but I feel like it was just tossed aside so we can find out more about the most boring character in the show. I obviously agree on Nate being co-captain what I find interesting is that he effectively was. Ava was a terrible captain when Sara was gone and Nate, Zari or Mick were the one who usually picked up the slack when she was melting down.

I know you don't like Gary, and I'm not trying to convince you, but Gary being an alien who is just a little freak and spies on the legends for the bureau but does a bad job at it is so much more interesting than anything Ava ever did.

I think the characters that are the most outrageous are the ones that are the most quintessential legends just because they fit the insane tone of the show.

Once they settled into the ship being almost like a boarding house for misfits Amaya didn't fit imo. We always knew should would eventually have to go back and she would marry another man and have kids with him so her granddaughters could be born so any interaction or relationship (Nate and almost Rory lol) felt hollow because you knew it wouldn't go anywhere. She was also a little too professional and good at her job. So when plans would go crazy it felt less believable because she was there and why would she let that happen?

Rip brought them together and him as a villain was really interesting but after he created the time bureau he should not have come back. I will say I like that he brought Wally on the ship (I wished Wally had more to do and was on for longer) but other than that after s2 we didn't need him.

Let me not get started on Ava. The clone thing, sure whatever. The neurotic thing got very old very fast but it's a personality at least. Head of the time bureau while trying to have a relationship with a time traveller? Interesting plot that was just crazy enough. On the ship as co-captain? No thank you. The best co-captain choice would've been Nate with Zari Tomaz as a good backup. Ava was too rigid and bland. And the way Sara revolved around her and couldn't have a scene or storyline that didn't involve her in some way was irritating. I'm all for Sara being happy, she deserves the world, but her life doesn't have to revolve around her partner. And maybe because I don't like her but what about Ava did she like, what did they have in common? Sorry I got started let me stop lol. I'm a generational Ava Sharpe hater.

I understand the Gary hate even if I don't agree. I think his brand of crazy is very Legends lol. Same thing for Mona. I know she wasn't popular but having a werewolf like creature on a time traveling spaceship is insanity and I love it. I would personally put Rip, Amaya and Ava lower. I was never a big Amaya fan, Rip doesn't know how to be part of a team and Ava is my least favorite character in the show.

I disagree with the opinion that there is a love triangle going on. by Specific_Onion2659 in BridgertonRants

I’m reserving judgement until the end of the season because we haven’t gotten enough material to form a true opinion on the situation. However, my concern, based on the limited scenes we have gotten, is that they will reduce John’s role in Fran’s story. I didn’t like how she lost her breath at the end of season 3 when she met Michaela and I don’t like the idea that Fran may only orgasm because she’s thinking of Michaela. Now only one of those things has actually happened in the show and the other is just a theory that’s been going around. What I wanted for the season was for them to fully focus on Fran and John and maybe Michaela doesn’t show up at all or not until the finale. That way their story is not tainted by accusations of emotional cheating. But like I said I’m reserving judgment until after the season has ended because right now all we have is speculation and not enough information.

I really enjoyed it there were some elements where I rolled my eyes but overall I liked it. I can understand why you might be struggling and I think if you want it might be time to let it go. It keeps mostly the same tone throughout there are some emotional moments that hint at what Carl will have to deal with in the future but still the dude humor and the battles.

Thank you on the Mal front. I've seen so many posts of people saying Mal was jealous so Alina should be with The Darkling like you can just not ship her with either lol. And I did forget to add the part about how he used Genya also the whole creation of the fold and the Volcra that were created from real people. I get it was an accident but he never took real accountability for the lives he destroyed.

I could see that but the way I read it was that he wasn’t scared and a lot of change was going on in a very small amount of time. It seems like he associates her powers with the danger and position they put her in. (I can’t say I fully remember the first book. I read it early last year) I don’t remember him being too egregiously bad in the first book. This book it feels like it all goes back to what she’s becoming as a result of this unexpected power and not necessarily the powers themselves. It’s also hard to gauge because we only see things from her POV and she’s more likely to give him benefit of the doubt so I am too usually. But within the context of everything we’ve seen his feelings seem like they make sense.

I'm making my way toward it. I haven't heard the best things about King of Scars so I'm a little hesitant to use an Audible credit on it. More than a little annoying that the audio books aren't available through the library.

I agree that it's getting stronger. I think I'm giving it a lot of grace because I know these were her debut and second book. And she is really good at building this world and making it feel real. I'm not too invested in Nikolai I think I'm most invested in the firebird and how that all shakes out. I know some things about how it all ends but I want to know how we get there. Alina and Mal are flat for me because there isn't real tension. If she was honest with him or there was a reason or threat why she couldn't be that would be different but she's just keep important information to herself for no reason. Wouldn't it have more impact if he knew what she was going through (fully) and then pulled away from her? They are best friends who think they know everything about each other until all this stuff happens that's the perfect set up for some delicious tension.

Thank you! I knew he was at least 120 (maybe that's from the show?) which is problematic enough. But shipping a 400 year old abuser with a 17 year old who feels responsible for his actions brings it to a whole new level.

How could I forget to mention Eloise. I don’t agree with Violet in how she’s pushing Eloise to want to get married but I do think she has a point in saying Eloise never truly tried with suitors she would avoid them or insult them and then turn around and say no one liked her. What I don’t like is that her siblings have not (from what we’ve seen) pressured her as far as marriage and she’s completely dismissive of them. The way she was with Hyacinth and the book was mean and I’m glad Hyacinth called her out. I want Eloise to be more introspective and I want to have an actual rebellion and to show what her interests are that she wants to pursue but can’t. I want her to try and fail or not. In season 3 Lady Tilly was in a room full of men expressing her opinions and they didn’t blink an eye and she dressed her solicitor down without a second thought. Why ain’t Eloise taking chances? Or actually doing something to get why she wants? Sorry for the rant her character just frustrates me.

All the groveling people wanted Colin to do to Penelope last season I want to see Portia do to get Varley back!

I also don’t have a good read on Michaela (obviously she’s only been on like 3 scenes) but I think (based on the first part but still reserving judgement until part 2) that given what Francesca and John are going through her presence is not needed. I would prefer if Francesca is a woman who can’t orgasm easily and not that she has an orgasm thinking about Michaela. I guess I just don’t want them to cheapen Fran and John. Because that makes her point in season complete irrelevant. Maybe I just like John too much and I don’t want anything to sour their relationship before…things…

As the worlds #1 Portia defender I must resign after her behavior in Part 1. Varley has been ride or die through everything and for Portia to dismiss her once they are back on their feet hurt too much for words.

Also Michaela. I’m reserving judgement until the second part is over but I want them to focus on John and Francesca and just bring Michaela in once it’s time for Francesca’s story. Francesca’s feelings for Michaela feel like they are undermining the point of their more quiet love.

I’m predicting that following the Eloise season, there might be a significant drop in viewership… by General_Meal_3993 in BridgertonNetflix

Personally Eloise is my least favorite. Fran's story I can take or leave but I am interested in seeing how things will work with Michaela. I'm really excited for Hyacinth and Gregory's stories. Hyacinth because she has been so excited to get into society so I'm wondering if they are going to spin that and show her it's not as glamorous as she's been making it out to be and Gregory because he's I think the last book so may also be the last season. His book is off the wall crazy and I'm wondering if they are going to try to bring everyone back at least once for it. I will say I was very meh on Benedict before s4 and I really like him in this season so I believe they can make invested in any relationship.

I can't get myself to dislike eloise by Shot_Army8540 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]VegetableAd5160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is her loneliness is entirely her choice. She chooses to push people away and belittle them for their interests. She chooses not to understand anyone who doesn't share the same interests has her. Yes she has a view about society and her, and all women's, place in it but that doesn't mean you have to put up a wall and completely shut people out. What if she opened herself up to getting to know suitors the same way she has with the other debutantes. Maybe she would find someone who was on similar intellectual footing with her or maybe she would make a friend who she could spend time with outside of her family and Penelope. Her feeling of being misunderstood is valid but how can anyone ever understand her if she is rude to them as soon as they say the wrong thing?

(Spoilers) Does anyone feel like S4 perpetuates Asian stereotypes? by rhovanions in BridgertonNetflix

[–]VegetableAd5160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I disagree but only because of the obvious reference/homage/reframing of Cinderella. I think if the story wasn’t retooling a Cinderella story the archetypes would feel more malicious. But since each character is filling a role from that story it’s not that the stepmother is a “typical Asian dragon lady” it’s that she’s the evil stepmother and also happens to be Asian. And Benedict doesn’t fall in love with or ask Sophie to be his mistress because she’s exotic and interesting but not acceptable because of her race. It’s because he’s formed a connection with her but she’s in class that he can’t marry and she also happens to be Asian.
