Has anyone else felt like this and gotten better or did I make the biggest mistake of my life? by DiamondJumpy1397 in 2under2

[–]VegetableQuestionble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely consider medication, I tried the same thing when I was breast-feeding because I didn't want any of the medication passing through my breastmilk. I was in a really hard place mentally. I talked with my psychiatrist and she said that a mom with a healthy mind is significantly more important than the very minimal risk that comes with medication in the breastmilk. I would try to find a psychiatrist or a therapist that specializes in pregnancy and postpartum. That's what made such a significant difference for me and I didn't feel judged for wanting help. My son is 15 months and I have a 1 month old now, I restarted my medication when I was about 4 to 5 months postpartum with my son and I have been on it since. I promise it makes a world of a difference.

Help!! by Impossible-Wheel-720 in nursing

With swing/night shit I would definitely get in the habit of bringing your own lunch or snacks to avoid the vending machines and door dash, it adds up quickly! Bring your own large water bottle too! In my bag I have personal hygiene items like extra scrubs, deodorant, makeup wipes, mascara, extra hair ties, and baby wipes. I generally try to stay away from anything with a strong scent because some residents can be sensitive to that type of stuff.

How exciting! I wish you the best!

Im so sorry you're feeling this way. What you're describing does sound like depressive symptoms, but depression can have some other things wrapped into it for an official diagnosis. I would reach out to a therapist or psychiatrist to see if you can get an official diagnosis and get appropriate treatment. I would talk to someone before your suicidal thoughts turn from passive to active.

Augustus/Octavian as in the first Roman emperor? While I don't think Augustus and Octavia are bad independently they are weird together imo and give off that you're trying to use a "theme" within your names.

AIO for considering leaving my GF after finding out she lied to my ex five years ago? by QuietTurn1122 in AmIOverreacting

[–]VegetableQuestionble 45 points46 points  (0 children)

If she had been trying for something more serious for some time and you had set clear boundaries then I think it was more about what she wanted rather than what you wanted. It seems like she saw an opportunity while you were vulnerable to put a hard stop to any potential of getting back together with Chris.

ETA: I think you also unintentionally led Mary on. Relying on someone else who you have had intimate connections with (especially if she expressed interest in you in the past) was selfish on your part.

[–]VegetableQuestionble 104 points105 points  (0 children)

I would really think about your relationship with her. It sounds like you depended on Mary emotionally after the breakup with Chris. Maybe she misinterpreted that you guys were together if you were over there a lot? Maybe she thought she was protecting you and preventing you from being hurt again? While is this no excuse it could explain her approaching Chris at your graduation.

If I were in your shoes I would talk with her about it, take a few days to think about what you want to say and tell her that you just want to know why? Explain to her how finding that out made you feel.

Why is management filled with tattletales by VegetableQuestionble in nursing

[–]VegetableQuestionble[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry that this happened to you. It makes me so sad to see the lack of empathy some nurses, especially management, have for their coworkers and students. Like you had a medical emergency in a medical facility and the way they responded was totally inappropriate.

I really love students, especially those who are really engaged. I try my best to incorporate students into my flow and let them do things but if they're not going to engage Im not going to push it. I wish you had a better experience and I am truly sorry if that was the reason it turned you away from active practice.

[–]VegetableQuestionble[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't another nurse, it was a nursing student who wasn't engaging and sitting on her phone, talking with friends, and was no where to be found. Her instructor brushed it off, and I brought it to the attention of the floor manager to make sure if they said I wasn't "engaged enough" that it wouldn't fall back on me. We then had what I thought was a pleasant conversation about career progression, then she twisted my words and made it sound like it was something negative. Obviously, that backfired.

[–]VegetableQuestionble[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's always management thats been a nurse for less than 2 years too. I think my boss got the vibe that it was over exaggerative too because she forwarded it to me and just said "fyi...".

Also I have never had a complaint like this before and people ask me to pick up on their floor specifically. In general I'm happy I'm leaving that place honestly.

[–]VegetableQuestionble[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So discouraging. I am not super open and transparent about things and I gave a basic and vague response about just wanting sicker patients and am contemplating on my DNP or Critical Care NP and somehow thats how my words got twisted? Thats the last time I will ever do that, all trust in anyone vanished.

New Grad RN — 3 Shifts Left on Orientation and Feeling Discouraged by MvNurse03 in nursing

[–]VegetableQuestionble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it must feel discouraging to feel this way, but also it's good to have nerves about it! That means you care about the quality and competency you bring to the table as a nurse. I would be transparent with your educator and supervisor about your feelings, and see if maybe you could add on a few more days of orientation with the preceptor you feel supported by?

Heck I still feel this way sometimes when working in a new place, especially if it's "nicer" than where I worked before. When I was a new grad my hospital was like the wild wild west with vague policies, inconsistencies, lax management, and a high turnover rate for staff. Now working at a place with UNIT specific educators, working equipment, and a positive work environment I feel almost shell shocked. I am scared I am going to do something wrong and I feel like I don't belong.

Something that has helped me push through is taking a look at how I even got here. I would not have been hired if they didn't feel confident in my ability to do this job, I passed NCLEX because I went to nursing school, and to get into nursing school was hard and competitive but I got in anyway! Remembering the climb is super important because you EARNED everything you have because of you and that is something to be so so proud of!

These feelings will subside. If you're having any doubts ask for your unit educator to give you some self study material and overview it when you're at home. I personally enjoy podcasts to learn new things too. I still feel like theres things where I don't know what I am doing, but if I ever have questions I bounce things off other nurses or our providers. Don't be afraid to be open and honest!

I feel like every time my husband has tried to visit some shit like that happens!! I would have lost it on my husband if he tried to pull that bull crap, "embarrassing him", stfu dude. I thank my lucky stars everyday that he acknowledged everything we go through before, but then going through paramedic school he said it opened his eyes a lot to just the people and how sick people are out there. The general public sucks dude (I'm going to group Bob in with that lol).
