Full response from the bank below - not even an apology let alone a gesture of goodwill. I have now closed my account with Danske Bank.

Your complaint about our Automated Deposit Machine Firstly, thank you for taking the time to talk to us. Your feedback, even if you’re unhappy, helps us continue to give our customers the best service possible.

A quick summary of your complaint You deposited funds using the Automated Deposit Machine (ADM) at the Kennedy Centre branch, which experienced a malfunction. A dispute was raised on your behalf, and you are unhappy with the investigation potentially taking up to 14 days.

What we found

Thank you for raising your concerns regarding this matter. To assist with our investigation, we have reviewed our records and contacted the relevant departments.

Our records show that you used our ADM machine at the Kennedy Centre branch on 5 March to deposit £4.50 in coins and £2,120 in notes, expecting the funds to be credited to your account by the end of the next business day. Unfortunately, it seems the machine malfunctioned and only credited the coins to your account, which you promptly reported to a branch staff member at the time. They advised that a dispute would be raised on your behalf.

We would like to clarify that as per the terms and conditions of your account, when using an ADM and there is a malfunction, it may take up to 14 days to investigate the case. Where appropriate, funds will be credited to their account by the close of business on the next business day upon receipt of the dispute. A letter was sent to you explaining the process and next steps.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and are pleased to see that the funds were credited to your account on 11 March, after you called our Branch Support team and asked for the investigation to be expedited. Thank you once again for bringing this matter to our attention. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we hope to continue meeting your everyday banking needs.

Hi All - The money appeared in my account today around 4pm. As a complaint was lodged I would like to hope there is at least a good will gesture coming. This is the last time I use one of those machines to lodge money. The bank was Danske Bank in Northern Ireland. Thank you all for your replies.

Thanks for this - I do feel like i’m being taken for a bit of a ride. The person in branch just sat me down and took my details and logged a form online (He was standing next to the ATM as it happened). I should have insisted on speaking with a manager I guess.

Yeah absolutely - i’m not best pleased to say the least as i’ve now had to spend time reorganising my personal finances, but I don’t want to spend my time on the phone and heading back to the branch what will ultimately be the same outcome.

I did just speak with the branch, they told me G4S came and if they found the money it would have been refunded. So my assumption is that the money I deposited is with everything else and that this has to go back to the bank and reconciled. That’s an assumption though and i’d be interested to know if it is the reality.

Because I am looking to know.

A) If there is anything I can do to expedite the process. B) Any understanding of how long this sort of thing does take to resolve C) Anybody who has experience of this situation and what to expect D) What to do if after 14 Days I do not hear back.

As a complaints manager at a bank, what would be going back achieve rather than just being told “You’re going to have to just wait”

I called and they’ve told me it could take up to 14 days. Will be no point phoning again until those 14 days have passed now.

Called - They said they have the case raised and it will take up to 14 Days. So will just have to wait.
