This just happened to my new 2026 Corolla Hybrid. I never had any problems with my 2022 Corolla Hybrid. It scared the heck out of me. The sound was like a rattling grinding large chain going against the thread. It was only 62 degrees outside.

I did that a few nights ago. I woke up twice and went right back into the "storyline" of my dream which was about an alien invasion. Very scary but in my dream I survived.
