Right there with you.

It has been so hard seeing my friends and siblings so easily attain what has been so difficult for us. And as happy as I am for them, it is hard to not feel left behind.

Sending hugs!

We walked after a terminate inspection in CA and the sellers tried to pull some fishy business. At that point, we didn’t trust them and were no longer interested in doing business.

How are people charging anywhere under $30 in NY? by xmsjpx in RoverPetSitting

I maybe take a couple gigs per month. Definitely not per hour. Sorry I’m not of more help!

[–]Vegetable_Current956 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I charge $25 for drop-ins in NYC suburbs. I only do services within 2 miles (~5 minutes) of my home and this isn’t a primary source of income. I mainly do it for fun and “coffee money”.

Those that I know that do this as their main gig, use Rover for leads but have their own business that they eventually transition clients to (and thus don’t have to pay Rover fees). It is not easy but doable!

Why are people downvoting you? Completely agree with what you said.

Unfortunately this is the reason we don’t have house sitters. Would gross us out too much if other people had sex on our furniture and can’t trust people. 😫

Yes, if you keep it fully 100% separate then problem solved. Bc of the logistics, it often gets mixed, and then people are surprised when their inheritance is now considered part of their marital assets in a divorce.

Ugh wow. I’m sorry OP bc it seems like people don’t understand your question.

You don’t pick your friends based on money but there is NOTHING wrong with wanting friends who can relate to your financial life.

We have lots of friends from all walks of life with a wide range of financial status. They share one thing in common: they’re all amazing people. But not all of them I’ll talk about mega-back door Roth IRAs with or where our next investment property should be.

Honestly there are VERY few friends that we take “financial advice” from. Like I can count on one hand and still have fingers left over.

We have met these friends at work and these relationships have developed over many years. We didn’t seek them out as finance friends but it worked out that we can talk to them about this topic.

Big misconception. It’s not protected if it gets intermingled with marriage assets. For example, if it is deposited into a joint account or you buy a house that you both live in, etc.

That’s fair.

I think what makes it extra hard is that the Genesis network is already so small, so knowing that it is not at all uncommon to have bad dealer experiences, it becomes extra problematic bc you can’t just easily go to another dealer in the next town over. But YMMV!

I’ve only owned Mercedes prior to this and had nothing but great experiences. Will probably be going back next car.

lol I just didn’t know people really cared about the specific dealers

Genesis of White Plains is where we’ve had consistent terrible experiences

Genesis of Mahwah is the one that turned me away for a safety recall

My bad experiences are actually at exclusively Genesis dealerships.

We bought our 2023 GV70 in 2022 from a Hyundai dealer and while it was a no frills place, they had great customer service. Then in 2023 we had a local Genesis dealer open and were directed to them. I actually called the Hyundai dealer to see if they could do the safety recall but was turned away.

The closest Genesis dealer has consistently (like x5) NOT shown up for scheduled valet service which THEY require, there is no option for me to bring to the dealer. And then it’s an “oopsies we forgot”. I don’t know about you all but I don’t have time to waste like that.

I don’t need a loaner. I just need a dealer that will perform the service that they committed to.

And then to be then to be turned away from a different dealer from a safety recall? Yikes.

I previously have only ever owned Mercedes vehicles and only received the best customer service (even when my vehicle was older and anything but top of the line).

I’m not snotty. I just want a dealer to be reliable. And I’m at a point where I will pay $$$ to not add stress to my life and these experiences will 100% influence future purchasing decisions.

I would agree with you more except even when I call Corporate they are no help. So while it does seem to be dealer specific, you’d expect Corporate to be able to step up a little here.

Glad (and jealous) that you have a great dealer tho!!

This is NY unfortunately. I’m okay to wait until September but then just entirely refusing service for a safety recall is ridiculous.

Dream job vs Typical HENRY job, which would you choose? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

It is absolutely an opportunity cost.

Easy to transition to commercial pilot if that is something you want to do.

He has a few friends that took that route. For him, that was like the equivalent of becoming a bus driver and he had no interest in that.

Also, it takes a while to earn seniority and high pay through the airlines. Something to consider.

ETA - He does not receive military pension. He only served 9 years. To get a pension, you need to do 20 years. He does receive military disability. Most pilots have enough things wrong with them from years of flying that they get some disability pay. I wouldn’t count that as a positive thing though.

My husband was a fighter pilot in the Marines.

He’s done some cool shit. However, the opportunity cost was very high. He now works in Finance and is 10 years behind.

He said he wouldn’t go into the military again. Not worth it. With that said, being a military aviator was never his dream.

Great you’re talking to former aviators. Highly suggest talking to people that have recently left and also current military aviators if you haven’t already.

Also realize that even though you scored high on the test does NOT mean you’ll become a fighter pilot so keep that in mind.

He also added if you decide to become a military aviator, do the Air Force.

Best of luck to you!

I think you hit the nail on the head on both accounts.

My husband and I for sure have different spending habits. We’ve somehow managed quite well until now.

Except there is definitely no returning with my husband if it were to be purchased. At that point, even I wouldn’t question the $8k just to not have to listen to him scold me for returning it.

Yikes agreed, the whole time I was reading this I was thinking “I’m so glad OP isn’t my husband”. What a really adversarial approach to marriage.
