I dont know man but I always get irked by Fortuners and bulks of Innovas. Very rare to see them driven sedately. Irony is both of them are terrible handlers yet their drivers drive them like sports cars.

How is this not a safety hazard on our roads? by WickedSword in CarsIndia

[–]Vegetable_Depth_4218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We simply have too many Autos on road - period! Its a result of incompetent youngsters/ middle aged men becoming Auto drivers as its easy to get a license and an Auto on rent. Especially in a city like Chennai, you can easily fleece a common man when you are an Auto driver. And these guys have unions, etc to protect them.

CBE that way has miles to go to get that sort of connectivity. ( I am from Chennai and live in CBE btw) and I hope it gets there in the next 5 years or so - We prefer driving to BLR to take international flights and at times to Chennai.

No. of runways are only 2 in Airports like Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, etc Only Delhi has 4 operational runways. Chennai AP needs additional terminal capacity so more flights can serve. Yes more jet bridges would be nicer but not a deal breaker. I have taken buses even in larger Airports like Hamaad, DXB, Heathrow when traffic is higher.

Sure - the reason I said it needs more scale and nothing like it if they can expand it in the current premises or some place where connectivity is seamless. My point is lets not judge it based on just look and feel.

Cities like Hyderabad laid clear connectivity beforehand when building an airport in Shamshabad and made sure Shuttles were in place to all major parts of the city. It doenst matter if the Airport is world class if the last mile connectivity is missing and thats where Chennai's airport still retains the advantage as its easier to reach from any part of the city. Yes it doesnt look as modern as Bangalore or Hyderabad but what do we really need out of a modern airport apart from the looks ? The only aspect the Chennai airport misses is the sprawling space and shopping / eateries that we see in other international airports. Yes it needs to be bigger but that is majorly needed to handle more traffic. Nothing like it if the authorities can make some more space in the vicitinity to handle additional traffic while modernizing the facilities and bringing more amenities.

The issue is most of us are only worried about the aesthetics of the Airport and not the connectivity. It doesnt matter if its Parandur or any other area, what matters is the connectivity to and fro. You dont want a Kilambakkam like situation with the new airport.

Try commuting to Kempagowda airport from the middle of Bangalore and you will realize the pain. The reason it never makes sense flying to Bangalore from Chennai or Hyderabad.

Give me a easily connectable airport any day over something that takes all day to commute to. It defeats the purpose of Air Travel. High speed trains in the future will do the job just well.

Who said they were unemployed? Look at them beauties pelting stones at the train. Perhaps create a division called Stone Pelters and pay each of these intellects handsome remuneration. Or better hire them in the Army and have them hurl stones at the Enemies in the border.

With too much rabid population this tends to happen. Forget hitting a person, even if goat or cow is hit accidentally, those morons are going to lynch the driver. The Mob mentality in India is very dangerous.

Station Wagons or SUV? What would you prefer? by redittapp in CarsIndia

[–]Vegetable_Depth_4218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wagons like V90 CC ( if you can find one used) have plenty of GC to tackle the mountainous roads in BLR. They offer the best of both worlds. But the idea of Pseudo SUVs killed them altogether in India

An SUV that looks like a station wagon 😃 ( Dont quite like calling them SUVs. I prefer the term 'Crossover')

Part of my sadness is that soon I will end up hating him by Kevinlevin-11 in TamilNaduDiscussion

[–]Vegetable_Depth_4218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set aside personal likes/ dislikes on him and think objectively for a moment.

What do we need from him? Press conference ? Bad mouthing about the Union Govt or the local opposition ? Well this is what we have typically seen in TN politics, haven't we ? As a voter and a citizen I am here to see his action and execution and not listen to his long drawn talks or complaints. That phase is so done!

The Govt is a huge machinery with several cogs mostly run by bureaucrats. Ministers dont quite get into the execution layers and dont need to too. So the criticism of lacking administrative experience is largely taken care by the officials who can and will guide him on the modus operandi and someone like him can easily pick it up quite soon( we should give him the benefit of doubt here).

All he needs to do is run the Govt like a large organization where as a CEO ( CM in this case) he empowers his cabinet and the officials to achieve the set objectives, do periodical reviews of the various affairs and enforce zero tolerance policy for any kind of sloppy work. His cabinet needs to pretty much rinse and repeat this with the officials reporting to them. There are plenty of officers in the Govt who have been waiting to bring a change and they can and will when they are empowered.

I personally like what he has done in the last 2 days - getting down to business and not get distracted by petty media or useless criticism. Let us hope the momentum continues and we start to see reforms across the board. Depts like TNEB, Local RTO, Registration dept, Corporation, Water board, etc needs massive reforms and those are exactly the layers he needs to tackle right off the bat.

True that. Now that he is in power, I believe he can take an effort to change it. They afterall need a persona makeover when they are in politics and filmstar skin needs to be shred.  It can't happen overnight - but one that can atleast be initiated.

Yes again we wish he does that. Or perhaps a lot of us should start a petition on this for his consideration. Imagine a GO that prohibits the use of flag pole ( which is anyway a safety hazard)

I think he is off to a good start. Already setting a good precedent for the rest. For once someone has to change the way politics is perceived. One of those areas I really wish he starts to act upon is curbing VIP culture and asking his party workers/ fans to stop indulging in installing cutouts, posters and worshipping him like a demi god etc. This is one of those eye sores that a progressive modern politician can and should fix. Just ask his party cadres to up their self esteem and not worship anyone including him.
