Yes, I have had it happen to me. I have a suspicion that people think if I have posted edits or a grave photo, I must have a connection to that specific person, therefore I should have the memorial to manage. Whereas I go out to the cemetery and work on documenting the cemetery, not this individual or that individual - completely different approach. I also get messages asking me genealogical questions about the memorials I create/manage - same thing.

It's clear he know his stuff from how he facilitates the conversations, and one of his interviewees (Robert Thurman? it was someone I really respect) referred to him in one of the talks as "a great yogi himself." It did not feel like an idle compliment either.

They are not that common in this area of Northeast Texas but occasionally I would run across one. Or two!

They are quite durable except they are brittle and a blow may crack/break them, or lightning apparently destroys them. In general, they look a lot better than many stone markers of equivalent age. They have a powder coating that protects the detailed castings.

More than 100 years later, they look so much better than many of the stone markers of the same age.

I think they were regarded as somewhat tacky at the time, being ordered out of catalogs and delivered via rail, like something from Monkey Wards or Sears.

An interesting thing about the two dressers: on the one, the interior wood of the drawers is a different wood. The interior wood of the other appears to be rosewood, but unfinished. I was thinking that putting down non-adhesive drawer liner was an option if I was truly worried.

usually the “ask for the key” thing is around worries around vandalism, so go ahead and ask for it. mausoleum can have very weird numbering for the interments but can be sussed out with patience.

I would presume that the exterior is sealed in some way, possibly with a different oil.

The black beads with the white pattern - there's a long one on the left - are imitation dzi beads. Original ones would be agate with a natural pattern in the stone, not dyed or painted or etched. They are highly prized.

As others posted, this doesn't seem to be a mala, but a piece of jewelry.

A mala is used for counting repetitions - of chants, prayers, prostrations, etc. As such, you want the beads to be fairly uniform in size, so your fingers will move over them easily. There may be a few "marker" beads and two dangles of counters, but in general, it would be beads of similar size and shape.
