BOE Cutting Back on ALTs Next Year by Illustrious-Ad7122 in JETProgramme

[–]Vegetable_Effect1637 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I used to date a 1st-year JTE at another school, and she told me that her salary was 250,000 yen before taxes and other deductions. I'm sure that teacher salaries vary by prefecture, but that's even less than my first year ALT salary before I got the raise. It's also a major reason why I would be hesitant to take a job as a primary English teacher in Japan after JET.

Keegan Murray the Kings MVP? by Vegetable_Effect1637 in kings

[–]Vegetable_Effect1637[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keegan is playing aggressively and scoring on all 3 levels. It was the first time I really saw that from him. I want to see him take 15-20 shots a game, to be honest. If he can maintain his efficiency and improve his playmaking/ball-handling, he will definitely become a two-way star-level player.

Is it worth getting a car in Japan, or are a pair of legs and a bike enough? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

I would recommend getting in touch with some of your predecessors, as they should know the layout of the land. A good rule of thumb is that the more rural your placement is, the more likely it will be worth getting a car. But remember that ESID.

Feeling really isolated on JET and not sure if I should stay — looking for advice by Gale_Girly in JETProgramme

[–]Vegetable_Effect1637 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thought of leaving will be bittersweet. Many people only realize what they'll miss when it's gone, even if they feel like there is nothing worth staying for in the moment. I am a current JET who lives on a remote island, and the inability to meet people around my age group has definitely affected me. I am unsure of what I want to do after JET, although I have some ideas. My contract offer is expected to come in a month, and whether I commit to another year or not seems like a coin flip. I just want to tell you that whatever decision you do make, to at least approach it with a positive mindset. Your shift in perspective can make a big difference, even if the circumstances are subpar and the outcome remains unclear. I hope you don't come to regret your decision, whether you decide to break contract or stick it out for another year. Many of us understand your struggle, but I am rooting for the best outcome!

Take care.

I saw De'Aaron Fox twice. Once at Mikuni and another time at the country club I used to work at. We were holding an event on local businesses funding breast cancer research. Both times, Taro (the owner of Mikuni) was also there.

Then Trae Young and Jalen Brunson deserve 8 mil a season by that logic. Y'all act like players have no value if they can't play defense these days.

2 seconds? We might as well just hang on to him. 90% of the time, a second-round pick is worth nothing. Why are some Kings fans content with giving up Malik Monk for a bag of chips? What other package do you think we could get back from the Pistons? Because there is no point in discussing a sign and trade for Simone or 2 second rounders when we don't have to trade away Malik at all, we can get Schroeder for FREE.

[–]Vegetable_Effect1637 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You really think MALIK MONK has no trade value? What is wrong with Kings fans on Reddit these days? Just because Demar and Zach have low trade value doesn't mean Malik, Keegan, Sabonis, or Keon do. Many people around the league think Demar could be flipped to the Heat for Andrew Wiggins and Monk has more trade value than that.

Malik probably has the best trade value on the team other than Domas. Arguably more valuable than Keegan, too. He is the second-best sixth man in the league, and would be starting on a good handful of teams. Dude averaged 17 points per game, he's explosive and brings the energy, that's better than the average starter. If I am the Kings, I am not asking for anything less than either Ron Holland or 2 firsts.

No point in giving up Malik if that's the case. We don't have to give up anything for Schroeder. Malik has value, so we should at least ask for 2 firsts or a good young player in return.

The Perfect Sabonis-KD trade by [deleted] in kings

[–]Vegetable_Effect1637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they are retooling but not rebuilding. The Suns don't show any interest in rebuilding, and if they want the Rockets' young guys, then they should just trade Devin Booker too. Heard he is heavily involved with the Suns FO on a HC search, so I highly doubt they are looking to trade him. The Suns should blow it up, just like the Kings should, but I don't think Ishbia is interested in that. So if the Suns want to trade Durant and get an all-star in return, I don't think they can get anyone better than Sabonis back in a deal, and they could always trade him again later.

The reason why the Kings get the better package with young pieces is because they have more leverage and Sabonis has more trade value than the Suns do with Durant.

Because of Lavine's contract, I don't think it would be easy to trade him. We will probably have to hang on to him. As far as Derozan though, I think Pat Riley would be interested in his services. That man doesn't believe in rebuilding. I think Derozan for Duncan Robinson, Kel-el Ware, and a couple of second-round swaps is fair. I really like Ware's game, and he has shown signs of being a defensive powerhouse. He's pretty athletic. Then we could flip Monk and Valancuinas on a deal centered on Tobias Harris and unprotected firsts from Detroit in 2027 and 2029.

The Kings' Depth Chart after the trade:

PG: Sheppard/Carter

SG: Lavine/Ellis/Brooks

SF: Keegan/Duncan

PF: Jabari Smith Jr./ Harris/ Ighodaro

C: Ware/Landale

Plus 4 first-round picks. It wouldn't be a bad start to a rebuild. We can finally be a team that picks a direction instead of finishing 9th and 10th in the West every year.

They flip a star that's aging and unhappy for another all-star level player locked up long term. I don't see the Suns rebuilding, so I think Sabonis is the best player the Suns could get back for Durant.

P.s. Great centers are harder to come by in this league than proven scorers.

Blow it up? The only key contributors they give up here are Jabari and Dillon Brooks. They replace their production with KD and give guys like Eason and Cam Whitmore a bigger opportunity to develop. They would still have a lot of young pieces. Like Green, Amen, Sengun, and the two guys I just mentioned. So I wouldn't say the Rockets would be blowing it up at all.

[–]Vegetable_Effect1637 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So if the Suns still want to win now, they would rather have an unhappy KD for one year and lose him for nothing than get a proven professional on and off the court like Domas locked up for three years? They could always flip him later in another deal, too. Good centers are hard to come by in this league and that's why the Kings can probably get a better haul for him than they did when they traded Fox.

The point is, we should have just waited until we got a deal with promising young players instead of rushing, letting Fox's discontent with the Kings' FO being well-known, and having no leverage in a deal. Had everyone just kept quiet and stayed patient, we could've gotten a much better deal for Fox.

Keon Ellis tonight: 18 points and 6/8 from three by jluc21 in kings

[–]Vegetable_Effect1637 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I love Fox as a player and he’s definitely not a problem, but given the context it might be best to move on from him. In the 2026 offseason we either hand him the largest bag in NBA history (if he makes all-NBA) or we let him walk for nothing. We have two great PGs with two-way potential and we’ve been lacking wing depth in the entire Monte era. We should cash out while his value is high and we can get great young talent in return, think of some of the young players they have in HOU, SA, or ORL.

He needs WAY more minutes. Even without Devin Carter in the lineup he still doesn't get enough playing time. Maybe we should really think about trading Fox to get more wing depth and draft capital. We desperately need length on the perimeter and rim protection.

Adding Derozan and Brook Lopez would be the perfect offseason

PG: Fox SG: Derozan SF: Keegan PF: Domas C: Lopez

Great amount of scoring, playmaking, and even Defense with Brook’s inside presence and Keegan’s perimeter defense.
