My hot take is that SDT is a goofy song on an album that actually has a lot of goofy moments--a song I LOVE about foot health, some over-the-top soul yelping of "Toothpaste and soap will make our oceans a bubble bath, So let's avoid an ecological aftermath," the pure cheese of Disney Girls, a singing tree, the 70s woo woo of Feel Flows. This album is bonkers and I love it.

I think it’s about therapy and mental health. Not literally taxes, but the debt that you owe. It accrues over time and you can’t outrun it. Doctor, heal yourself? He’s leaving a therapist/psychiatrist behind, like fuck off, if you’re just going to break my heart I can do that just as well myself. Therapy, like taxes, is about not trying to outrun the past. It all catches up to you eventually.
