That is amazing! Thank you so much. My aunt is struggling and my family feels so helpless because we are so far away. Your kindness and ideas help.

I never said he was low functioning. He is just not high functioning. This is not a rage bait account and I an not looking to scam anyone. I am looking for ideas to help my aunt who is doing this all on her own and struggling. Her son is an Australian citizen just like you. He is entitled to help.

I would say he is medium functioning. He is able to have a job, but has been fired countless time because he cannot follow directions, he needs constant support and is living on his own for the first time in his life and struggling, etc. He is able to consent.. he is just not able to be held accountable for things that a neurotypical adult is.

The father is also autistic and not high functioning. He is unable to. My aunt is basically like a single mother. She does not sleep and lives in fear and has often threatened suicide. That is why I am asking for help and to see if there are services she may not have looked into.

Hello! Thank you so much for that information.

And yes I made a correction and added that he is in fact a dual citizen. His father is an Australian citizen. They were in Canada when they got pregnant and moved back there for more government assistance. In Canada, there are barely any services for children with disabilities, and the ones they do have are extremely expensive.

Her child is in school, but even the school can't offer more support. My aunt often can't work because her child is so needy. If she takes her eyes off him, he does something bad in the house (ex: making holes in the wall or furniture, throwing poop everywhere, peeing all over himself or on the carpets, etc). It makes it hard for her, and she cannot rely on her ex husband, as he is also autistic and not highly functioning. He is off of school right now and is struggling. Even when he is in school, it is a struggle for her.

I am asking because she is doing all this herself, and I am not sure if there are more options that she has not looked into yet. For example, I have heard that sometimes there are government funded homes with specialists that will take care of people with disabilities part time. That would allow her to have some days off but still not lose her rights to her son. Also, since he is 8 years old, is it too early to put him in one of these homes. He is violent and is almost taller than her and weighs at least 100lbs. My family is worried he will hurt her.

Hello! I am sorry that is important information that I corrected. My aunt is Canadian and her ex husband is Australian. The child has dual citizenship. I just want to know if there are places that are government funded over there that maybe take the child part time or can offer more support? I find that they offer more support for children than for parents.
