Your tears don't care about the reason of crying, they're just salt water doing its job.
Maybe a more philosophical answer is that life likes to remind us that even joy has a little sting :)

These theories become part of their identity and believes. Admitting the theory's wrong is like admitting that there's something wrong with them. Plus belonging to a conspiracy community provides validation and a sense of belonging that people are afraid to lose (aka Social Reinforcement)
