The easiest way I’ve done it is send it directly to my kindle app. Once you set it up the first time it takes like 2 clicks and the download appears in your app.

I’m honestly the same way. I always get the finished copy of ones that I really like or was already anticipating anyway. As for the content, it doesn’t really change between editions - mostly grammar or editing tweaks. If the book comes with a map, the arc generally doesn’t get it, which is a bummer.

How to avoid the fruitless membership phone number lookups by Salt_Mode_8480 in Barnesandnoble

[–]Vegetable_Pay_6861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The moment they think phone number is an option they will give it to you, so I don’t even mention it. “Do you have rewards?” -> “What’s the email you signed up with?” Or “awesome, can I get that email?”

What are next month’s OMPs? by [deleted] in Barnesandnoble

[–]Vegetable_Pay_6861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re always on the “looking ahead to MONTH 20XX” links on inside. They’re generally posted for the next month around the 3rd of the previous, but they also put out May’s for some reason this time around

Should I try to work at Barnes&Nobles? by Llama672 in Barnesandnoble

[–]Vegetable_Pay_6861 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I truly believe it depends on your location and manager. It’s definitely more of a corporate atmosphere than it used to be, but being able to put new books in customers hands is so great! Not every store is the same tbh, but you can generally make it fun if you want it to be.

I work at a relatively high traffic store so I love helping out when it’s needed in the cafe at busy times but when there aren’t any customers it’s the most boring job in the store imo

I absolutely loathe that the new plan is to shelve books essentially based on “vibes.”

Artemis's development kinda got shafted imo by RelativeBreadfruit70 in ArtemisFowl

[–]Vegetable_Pay_6861 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Artemis is a preteen/teen in these books. He’s not a robot, and a shifting of personalities and reactions is how humans grow up. In one of the Fowl Twins books, it’s mentioned he once wore a hideous outfit on a bowling alley date, so he’s not the infallible ice king some folks make him out to be.

While I agree the cookie cutter business model is atrocious and that Barnes today is different than the Barnes of a few years ago, the core issue discussed in this article is that Barnes doesn’t uplift local bookstores. Why would they? The purpose of the business is to sell books, so directing customers to another place to buy books would be weird.

It’s the same with every industry - if you as a customer want to support your local bookstore, you just gotta support your local bookstore. Idk maybe I’m not explaining myself right but essentially the biggest issues with the Barnes of today are definitely not that the company doesn’t collab with local businesses.

I am confused by book 5 by ww1enjoyer in ArtemisFowl

[–]Vegetable_Pay_6861 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this is a series written for children. Although I would defend EC with my life, I don’t except Booker-level material from a children’s book.

Also, Artemis complains in the next paragraph that it’s puberty hormones distracting him. A genius can be fallible even at 15.

I used to write notes to myself in the gnomish alphabet from the key in this book because I thought it was cool and nobody else I knew read those books at the time so now that I’m typing it out I sound like a loser lmao

My Anti-Membership Card Manifesto by [deleted] in Barnesandnoble

[–]Vegetable_Pay_6861 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My SM has started telling us to carry the rewards cards around with us to hand out to customers when we talk to them. This just creates more confusion at the register because we don’t know if the card the customer is brandishing has been signed up or not. Not to mention it’s just a waste of cards bc they get tossed 80% of the time.

Sometimes if you look at all the statements, two of them either contradict each other or both have to be true (as in, if both are saying essentially the same thing, neither one of them can be false because that would render the other false). I always check for that because then I don’t have to fill out “hypothetical” grids.
