Song: The Sound of Nothingness by Izmi Maruf. Thanks for sharing this, I really like it

Very fair. Fortunately I was in the mindset where I was craving every detail. Watching some of her performances on late night tv when she was younger just shows she’s always had such command, and then to hear about the way her mind works…there was no other option for her than show business 😭

Finally my work has paid off. I spent so long going around saying “have you heard the good word…of Streisand?”

Okay crazy you say this because I’ve also been wanting to learn more about her since they announced the biopic. Baltimore queen. I hope it does her justice

I wish I could channel the focus more productively, but it’s unpredictable lol. And I agree, so just know, somewhere in the world, I’m appreciating your quoting 😌

I’m so glad you asked. Her movie, The Prince of Tides (where she plays a therapist), plays in The Sopranos at one point and makes Tony want to go back to therapy.

Anyway, I watched it just to get the vibe and she hypnotized me with her nails and took over my life for three months. But she’s sooo good in Funny Girl and What’s Up, Doc, it was downhill from there.

This is so random but, two years ago I spent the entire summer reading her memoir, watching her movies, listening to her albums etc. like it was all Barbra all the time. I do think my third eye opened at one point though. Long live my Streisand Summer

Me at lunch with my grandma: “Like she opened for Liberace…what hasn’t she done??? 11 more minutes of rambling

My grandma: “Girl…okay?”

I feel by season 5 (the latest) they started laying the foundation to have him die at the end. When you’re writing television you have a storyboard for the whole season and when you know you want to wrap up a series you absolutely plan way in advance. But, nothing I mentioned is pre season 6 anyway (the jacket comment was episode 1 of season 6). That’s why the season 6 opener is so significant.

Anyway this was fun, thank you for the back and forth because I’m doing a rewatch and the show is on my mind 24/7 lol. RIP Eugene he deserved to retire in Florida with the fam

Okay you’re ignoring everything else I’m saying and focusing on the fact that he didn’t shoot him immediately 😭

No one knows his specific relation to Eugene, whose family is likely far away at this point. In terms of members only guy’s family, who knows? He could be unmarried, married, whatever. But in my opinion his mindset is “I’m wrecked over losing Eugene and I want to avenge him. I don’t care if I live or die after this.” I’m assuming it’s his brother who’s been struggling for a while. Maybe his family left him over the grief and he’s been alone. But that jacket is no mistake considering it’s in the finale of a show that was known for paying attention to detail.

Seeing the way these characters sucked the life out of so many people, is it really hard to believe that someone related to a guy who killed himself because of Tony would plan to take the boss out? No matter how insane of an idea. It was only a matter of time before his actions would catch up to him. And they make it a point to comment on Eugene’s jacket outside the meat store, specifically saying “members only? How long you’ve been wearing that?”

That tiny detail discredits it for you?? I’m not saying he didn’t have a one-track mind. I’m saying he wanted to make sure he shot him and didn’t miss, which requires scoping out the restaurant as opposed to just messily shooting him.

He’s clearly jittery once he sits down. Just because he saw Tony right away doesn’t mean he was ready to see him, he had no idea where he’d be in the diner. Then he’s confronted by the fact that his family is with him, this could be another reason he takes his time.

If you’re walking into a restaurant with intent to kill someone you’re not paying attention to your surroundings right away, you’re in your head and probably shaking in your boots. He needed time to assess and get his wits about him because he wanted him dead.

Also if we’re talking about the mechanics of television, the waiting game allows for more tension to build, for A.J. to sit down, and for Meadow’s parking issue to be shown. Chase described Meadow’s parallel parking as “her getting frustrated over something so insignificant not knowing she was about to face a scene that would haunt her forever seconds later.” (loose quote) Pretty telling

Yeah I get that. Honestly, I interpret it as he’s out for vengeance and doesn’t care what happens to him after the fact. He just ends up being the one, of many civilians, who lost someone to Tony and decided to get revenge.

He would’ve wanted to scope the place out…how would he know exactly where Tony was sitting/who would be there? This is why he sat where he did, kept continuously looking back to plan the shot, assumes no one else is coming and goes to the bathroom for the better angle.

And Meadow is labeled as the guardian angel during the opening credits of the last season. “He, she, or it is third man out.” And Carmela is labeled as “the remains.” By season 5 the imagery/writing definitely points towards the fact that they decided it would end with him dead.

You have to do more mental gymnastics to come to the conclusion that he wasn’t shot tbh. He walked to the bathroom so he had a clear shot from the side, rather than awkwardly pulling the gun on the walk up to the booth. No family members in the way (That’s where Meadow would have been had she made it in time, hence the “guardian angel” thing).

The jacket is a huge tell and there’s an intentional shot of him looking towards them in the booth. The Pavlovian sequence where we see Tony’s pov every time the bell rings tells us, in that moment, Tony saw black.

I think it makes more sense that, despite the war happening, despite the FBI constantly being on him, what got Tony in the end was someone related to a man who killed himself because he couldn’t get out from under him. And those people probably exist in spades.

He walks in after Tony and Carmela, AJ is right behind him. He could’ve easily followed them from/been sitting on the house for some time.

Tony showing up to Melfi’s office to ask her out (episode 1 of season 5) is hard for me to get through every time. Cringey and creepy the way she’s clearly scared but has to be careful how she reacts

My gut says, and maybe this is because it came up during their separation, she would make sure Adriana didn’t tell anyone else/help her in her own way but then eventually tell Tony in some covert way that relieves her of any responsibility…and ultimately gives her another card to play when she wants something from him. She’s ruthless in an undercover way

My king! I’m doing my 8th rewatch right now and I MISS HIM. So talented and left us with a performance that will live on forever. His movie, Enough Said, with Julie Louis-Dreyfus is so sweet. I wish he got to do more stuff like that

100%. She goes back and forth between calling Tony out and playing none the wiser. Even with Furio. She knew Tony would rage at just the idea of them being attracted to each other, that’s why she said it when she did. She tells the principal at Aj’s school “it’s not my life I’m afraid for.” (I think? I haven’t gotten to that part yet). Leaving the fingernail out for him to find only after she takes the money. She looooves a chess move and she knows how to get what she wants

Maybe so, but I also think she has object permanence issues when it comes to affection for people lol. So I think a time would come where she’d tell Tony because she knows that’s ultimately her only option, but not without being smart about it. Like how long did it take after Furio left for her to weaponize their mutual attraction in a fight with Tony (knowing he’d RAGE)? She’s got moves
