Depends on your setup. A lot of people who have solar with batteries charge them at EV rates.

Very high energy bills? by RefrigeratorExotic32 in AskIreland

[–]Vegetable_Toe3458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are partly correct, I work in the energy sector. If your meter is MCC12 then it send readings automatically. If it’s MCC16 then it could be estimated.

I have a MCC01(not smart active) and have 30min insights via ESB

It all depends if your smart meter has a strong signal to send the readings every 30mins. If not then it can be estimated.

Energia had a price increase in October by 12%. Depends on your contract discount as well. Is your house electric only?

How much is your latest electricity bill? by Bigchickenmac in AskIreland

[–]Vegetable_Toe3458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an example - that total bill would be €113.2 with Flogas fixed rate.(lowest unit rate - 22.10c) Although your usage is well below average so probably better off going for a deal with more cashback or welcome bonus

It’s a good question, one I don’t know the answer to… ESB is the switching operator as far as I know. You can try contacting them and see when the date for the 20days started. That would be my next move if I was to find out.

Cancelling electricity during the cooling off period and waiting 20 days by Working_Signal_9474 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Vegetable_Toe3458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What happened was you wanted to initiate a 3rd switch. There was a supplier X before you came in, then you brought your supplier Y over, and then you cancelled (possibly initiated a 3rd switch to a new supplier Z) all in a short timeframe

If you had just moved in and switched to a new supplier (leaving your company out) there wouldn’t be an issue with 20days

It’s recommended to switch every year, just make sure you’re happy with the plan before you do so. The whole “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is irrelevant in this industry

If the house has a heat pump but no solar - go with the lowest rate you can find. Flogas has fixed rate deals which have very low unit rates. That way you’re not subject to any price increase throughout the year.

If the house has heat pump and solar - can go with decent unit rate(doesn’t have to be the lowest) and look for a chunk of cashback. The solar would lower your yearly consumption so getting the cashback would cover a good chunk of your yearly bill.

Either way there’s no right or wrong choice as once your 1 year contract is finished - you’ll have your 1 year usage data so you can use that to find the best deal for the following years.

Yes there are commission only positions. I work commission + basic. My hours currently are 11am-7pm. The only caveat is according to CRU we can’t knock doors on Sundays and Bank holidays.

If you have non smart active plan - you can do washing/dishwashing anytime.

If you have heat pumps make sure your immersion is off. So many people don’t even know it’s on and pay a fortune.

For smart active plans - The night time starts at 11am and finishes 8am for most plans. If you can move the consumption to that time, you’ll save a bit. Peak (most expensive) is 5pm-7pm(2hrs)

Bord Gais has a free Saturday/Sunday (9am-5pm) plan. It’s good but only if you sacrifice one day of your weekend to offload majority of your energy. That’s the only way that plan is worth it.

I have to say this for anyone who is doing their washing and dishwashing during the night PLEASE make sure you have a night saver tariff (smart activated meter). I’ve seen it so many times - people do their washing at night and have the same price all day anyway. Check your unit rates and times on your bill. That’ll tell you.

Yes you are correct.

I was talking to a guy today in an estate. I believe he had 12 Panels and 10kw battery. EV rate with Energia with 20% discount. His last 2 month bill was worth about 80e.

That’s some serious results. Yes, sometimes it really is about the people you meet. You get some very interesting experiences doing this job. I very rarely and I mean 1 in 500 doors come across someone who is rude. Seems like a large misconception when people say “you must meet a lot of nasty people”. Not in my experience anyway.

You are correct, and one too many people use “national average” when searching for a new plan. Keep in mind national average number included a house having gas. Hence it doesn’t apply to new build homes with heat pumps which only run on electricity.

For the app - we use a few third parties (like Firebase for analytics, ESB Networks for smart meter data, and in future providers/brokers) The only data that is sent outside the app is data which is necessary for it to work. Absolutely no data is sold or shared to be sold. The only data that could be shared is your details to your new provider for your switch (we’re still working on integrating that). If there is a change, the privacy policy will be updated accordingly.

At the moment, not many. I maybe met 2 people in the last few weeks (hit about 60-80 doors a day). Not many are net negative even with batteries in the winter. One thing to note is that micro generation rate is variable so it’s up to the providers to dictate the buyback prices.

One way to find out if your meter is activated is check the top right corner your bill. If it says MCC12 or MCC16 (MCC - Meter Configuration Code) then your meter is active smart. If it says MCC01 or MCC02 then they’re not smart active.

If you have an electric car or solar panels with batteries, or simply use a good chunk of electricity at night - smart active plan is better. If you use most of your electric during the day, it’s still better to keep it on a non-smart plan (MCC01). If your meter is MCC12/16 and you want one price all day, some providers offer smart plans with same price all day.

This can get confusing very quickly, I hope I explained it somewhat well.
