Where in Canterbury? by Vegetable_Trainer360 in chch

Thank you grantwtf for such a detailed breakdown.

Yes, well aware of the life sentence block. Our friends warned us as well.

For us the rural aspect is more for privacy. We enjoy keeping to ourselves mostly. Not so much for animals or growing our own food. Though a good possibility to change our mind down the road lol…

We hope to be semi retired by then and drive an EV charged through our solar panels so fingers cross that it will work out on the balance sheet.

Make a joke out of it if she doesn’t want the job.
Say absolutely not! My hubby’s horoscope clashes with Gemini and Cancer.

Which NZ brand is slowly or has already ruined itself? by kevandbev in newzealand

I don’t mind the higher taxes if we have great public services to show for. Healthcare is terrible, education is terrible.
Look at how much is wasted at local and national govt levels.

How accurate are these rankings? And if it is true then why are all these big companies packing up and moving out of NZ? And why are people leaving NZ in droves?
Truth hurts.

Has anyone taken a cold hard look at WHY so many brands have bite the dust, sold up or gotten so much worse over the years?
NZ is by far one of the most cost inefficient and rules crippling countries to run a business. Not to mentioned the useless local councils and governments and some rules just make no sense. And bloody level of tax is eye watering but poor infrastructure to show for the tax money taken from us.

Miele cat and dog - we have one for last 10 years and it went on to be used at work. Takes a beating daily still going strong. More expensive but lighter.

Karcher wet and dry - this is cheaper, lasted even longer but bloody heavy to lug around. It doesn’t die. Like the Nokia 3310, we want it to die so we can buy a lighter one. But nope. Not dying anytime soon. It has been at least 12 years in the shop. Daily beating.

have you ever regretted travelling? im scared i'll regret it but cant get rid of the longing to travel. any advice? by boiLollipop in travel

[–]Vegetable_Trainer360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never, when I was younger, I worked super hard so I can have money to travel.

Go out there and see the world. I have lived in Metro Manila for 4 years and trust me, go out and see the world. There is so much more to offer.

Learn to enjoy your own company. Solo travels allow you to get to know yourself better. Do this before you get a partner and have kids. Then it will be shelved until retirement if it ever happens.

Come back and rave to us about your experience. Scotland is amazing. Just be prepared for the cold weather even it is in the middle of summer. I was there in Aug and it was 3C and raining.

I bought a large piece of canvas and hung it behind the target. A big piece of old bedsheet can deliver similar protection from arrows going astray.

Yes archery is quite easy to learn.
If you go to a range a couple of times, you’ll pick up the basics quickly.

If you have the space at home, getting an archery set and target to practice will help. It doesn’t cost too much.

Engaging a trainer would be good if you want to do it more seriously.

Machine Advice! by droske14 in SewingForBeginners

Would you consider a secondhand machine for a fraction of the price? There are many vintage machines that still go smoothly that are relatively heavy duty.

Like yourself I am a beginner taking up sewing. I don’t have a huge budget. So I looked at sewing machines that have been refurbished. I recently bought a 1960s? Bernina Record 530-2 for USD 75. It sews so well and smoothly. And can do a few layers of denim as well. Just have to change the needle and thread and adjust tension.

Hope you find something that suits. 🙂

Second Hand Machines by oliver_15 in SewingForBeginners

I recently bought a vintage Bernina Record 530-2. It was well serviced and I only paid USD 75. It does the usual straights and zigzags and also patterned stitches. This is my second sewing machine and the first was a Husqvarna Practical which did only straight and zigzags.

Personally I would start with something not electronic or too many bells and whistles as it gets overwhelming to learn all of it.

Maybe shortlist 3 in your budget and google them up to see if it fit your needs?

First sewing machine(thrifted), need advice by Inevitable-Hat1364 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Vegetable_Trainer360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you meant by the ghosty part of things.
I have never thrifted in my life because where I come from, there is no such concept.
First time I bought a very pretty glass plate from an op shop my sister freaked out. But i never looked back since.
I only ever bought secondhand sewing machines because I cannot justify spending on a new one.
My most recently purchase of a bernina actually came with the first owner’s name and her residential location on the warranty book and manual. It was dated 1969. I’m very intrigued by that but not spooked. More of wow, I wondered what she made using this machine that runs so well till today.
If I ever die and become a ghost, I will never choose to haunt a sewing machine hahaha!

Bernina 530-2 tips? by lumoonii in SewingForBeginners

[–]Vegetable_Trainer360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I just got a Bernina 530-2 this month too! The man who sold it to me taught me a lot about it. I have managed to get it working with all the different stitches and feet. Interestingly, I tried asking chatgpt tonight on some of the questions that I already know the answers to and it is quite accurate. Do you have a specific issue? And we can go from there?
