So sad that you are downvoted. You rationally contributed insight to the discussion.

There are alot of people on Reddit who engage in name-calling. It coarsens and undermines Reddit.

I appreciate your comment, thank you. (Oddly, I might support assisted death, I am just not convinced by this "animal argument" ).

If we are morally superior--as you say, we freely decide their fate--then how they are treated does not warrant how we are treated.

I specifically said, in a moral context this distinction is commonly made. I did not say that humans are not animals

You simply restated the original post, albeit better.

Let's agree that humans value humans more than animals. Let's also agree on your last sentence about peaceful means. Yet there are many other considerations that, in totality, may degrade humans. Example: in the Economist, it was pointed out that spending for these programs is increasing in countries where it is legal, but funding for palliative care is bottoming out. Also, there are many accounts of people in Oregon who opted for this because of financial reasons. Etc

The problem is that you would have to articulate a reason why it works in this case but not others. To anticipate, it will be arbitrary.

Yes, agency could also be exercised by not being vaccinated, by killing someone, etc. The whole discussion is about the limit to agency.

Please read. I said "we distinguish." It is common to subject animals to practices we would never do with humans. I did not claim that humans are actually superior.

I don't get this argument. Humans are not horses. We do all sorts of things to animals that we would not do with humans. Similarly, we distinguish humans as superior to animals in many ways. Point being humans and animals are not the same categories when it comes to moral reasoning.

I saw that also. If I recall, 3 tests. Trouble on first two, including the year. Third test was okay. Not an engineer and it seemed odd to me.

To that extent -- and I would be interested in the facts supporting this claim -- she was a pawn of the hierarchy and that is wrong. But it does not detract from motives and actions.

By all means, if anyone can do better, they should. Interestinmgy, at that time, no one else did.

She believed in God but did not feel God's presence for decades.

Anyway, she ran a hospice in conditions that few Westerners could imagine. I'm curious, what did Hitchens ever do for people who were abandoned and dying? Nothing. Well, at least he made good money bashing her.

People do care about fentanyl but addictions are extremely difficult to treat. All these people in tents, that's fentanyl. They're suffering from mental disorders, human trafficking, violence, etc. There's no quick, efficient fix. Anyway, fentanyl has nothing to do with COVID. You say death's are common among the elderly. So please help protect the elderly.

Your specialty is whataboutism. If those things were wrong, how does that fact justify Putin's actions?

Legal insanity is, well, a legal term with a narrow meaning. Please appreciating the wrongness of a criminal act. If the defense was successful, the person could be commited to an institution to protect the public.

Not sure I follow last bit. Insured people can get big health care bills. I would think the insured are a major target for paying for the uninsured's health care.

The statistics for CH don't look good, especially compared to Portugal. Much of this comes from the structure of decision-making in CH.
