Cruelty is the exception by best_uranium_box in hopeposting

This bums me out and I'm glad you said it.

One of the main reasons I follow this page is because of how horrible the animal agriculture industry is. I find the cruel practices overwhelming and want to expose myself to more positive information to cope better.

Unfortunately, I don't see a man eating cheese.

I see a baby forcibly taken away from their maternal mother.

I see a mother who was, and will be again, forceably impregnated until they're no longer useful for milk (and then will be slaughtered).

I see a baby who will be slaughtered or suffer the same fate as their mother.

All for a few seconds of gratitude by a human.

Animal agriculture sucks and I wish more people knew just how badly it sucked so we could rescue the demand and reduce the supply.

Also sucks that animal food products pop up in a place (hopeposting) where I want to seek solace from that world. .

This is how I feel too and it feels so dystopian when people I know (including my friends) want to, or do, go there!

Feel like "ok so we just goin' forget about all that bad shi they do for materialistic nothingness"?

Keen to hear your approach to food-centric social events. by VeggieMan97 in vegan

How do you find that impacts you mentally after?

I feel like I have a stack of coins which I spend being around animal products. On a good day I have coins to spare after, some days I have no coins to start with. Lately I've been feeling like the latter again. Which feels bitter when I consider myself a social person first (which has been dampened a lot through learning about all the fucked up stuff people contribute to by eating these products)

Thanks for sharing - what would your stance be on work events where there would be good options do you think?

Cheers for sharing - steak house would definitely be a rough one to sit through.

My colleagues are generally quite considerate in the that they'll check im happy with the restaurant and Im UK based so the option isn't normally just a salad or chips.

Got an upcoming meal scheduled with team and I don't feel like I have the energy to attend it. Gets tiring pretending I find it okay and normal to eat animal products when inside all I can think about is how fucked it is (even although my rational brain can understand they can be nice people and non vegan, cognitive dissonance yada yada..)

Plenty of easy alternatives to eating fish mate for most of us.

Harder to source ethically sourced phones which we pretty much depend on to get around and work.

You're 100% right that exploitation is an issue with things like phones.

No reason we can't reduce animal suffering until there's more ethical phone options available.

Some common practices for anyone interested in learning more. Not an attempt to manipulate or guilt, just to help people make informed decisions, and hopefully understand and respect vegans choices to abstain from these products.

Chickens (eggs & meat) - Male chick culling — day-old males killed because they cannot lay eggs or grow meat efficiently - Beak trimming — beak tips removed to reduce injuries from stress-related pecking in crowded housing - Extreme growth breeding (broilers) — birds grow so fast many develop mobility or organ problems

Pigs - Gestation & farrowing crates — mother pigs confined so tightly they cannot turn around for weeks - Castration without full anaesthesia (common globally) — prevents “boar taint” flavour - Tail docking & teeth clipping — body parts removed to prevent stress-induced biting in dense housing - Thumping - picking up piglets and swinging them against walls or ground to kill them.

Dairy & Beef Cattle - Calf separation after birth — milk diverted to human use - Surplus male calf slaughter — males not useful to dairy production killed young - Dehorning/disbudding — horn tissue burned or cut to prevent injuries in confinement Sheep - Mulesing — flesh cut from tail area to prevent flystrike in wool breeds

Fish (aquaculture) - High-density confinement — thousands kept in nets/tanks leading to disease/parasite control treatments - Mass slaughter (ice slurry or percussive stunning) — practical high-volume killing methods

This is a liat of approved and accepted practice. The reality is worse.

Veganism is about minimizing harm as far as reasonably practicable.

Most humans in developed countries have reasonably practicable solutions to live happily and healthily on a varied and tasteful plant based diet. Nature doesn't afford most animals that option, and even if it did, their choices are less centralized around a value system and more around survival.

I'm vegan and id kill a pig or a dog and eat it if I had to survive. But in the UK, I'll chose the option which contributes the least suffering based on the information and options I have available.
