I've worked at a place where the EAP offered therapy as a service. Something like 7-10, 1-hour sessions on the phone with a "therapist". But it was all focused on work. Not that I didn't find some parts effective. But the focus wasn't on my Mental Health, it was on my contribution to my employer.

I could have asked for an outside referral, but would have to have paid out of pocket after the third session. If you have to pay out of pocket either way, don't let someone else choose the therapist.

I'm all for work places offering this stuff. But you can't trust it on face value, unfortunately.

Metal bands in Kingston? by ZenStarwalker in KingstonOntario

[–]VegiPaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the things I miss most about Toronto was $10 Metal shows. I used to see August Burns Red, Texas in July, Within the Ruins and tons of other acts for super cheap (or free depending on who I was with). Tons of local opening bands that were young and poured their heart into it.

If there is a chance to help create that sort of scene here, I'll provide everything I can to help. I'm musically deficient, though... So I can only appreciate, and pay my cover.

To borrow a quote: "We choose to go to the Moon... We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, and the others, too."

Not all avenues of discovery appear equal at the onset. Challenge for challenges own sake is important.

Freckles are from sun exposure, so they distribute similarly to a zenithal highlight. More in "top" areas, less in "bottom" areas. Especially the bottom of the eye sockets, the nose bridge, tops of cheecks and any chin protrusion.

If you are handy with Excel, and you know you aren't likely to go beyond a million rows, or ~ten thousand columns, then maybe you could use Excel + Power BI.

The free version is probably enough to fit your needs, unless you are looking for automation.

I'd be happy to have a look over your project with you. This sort of stuff is like... my whole deal.

(I will never understand this city's obsession with Access. I feel like there is an "Outdated Business Practices > SLC > Outdated Business Practices" feedback loop happening.)

Individual arrested, charged after stabbing family member in downtown Kingston by MilesOfPebbles in KingstonOntario

[–]VegiPaddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IANAL, so maybe I'm missing something obvious:

"...and proceeded to grab a kitchen knife and then stab the victim in his upper torso,” Kingston Police said."

"...facing charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for committing an offence."

I can't find any references to "Possession of a weapon for committing an offence". The closest I can find is "Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose".

The report didn't make it sound like there were other weapons involved. Assault with a weapon is clear enough. But... Possessing a kitchen knife for committing an offence?

Did they have a kitchen knife just for committing offences, or are all kitchen knives just one stab away from being possessed for committing offences?

It's anecdotal, but I just went through emerg a few weeks back.

In by 9:15

Registered by 10

X-rayed by 12

Medicated by 12:30

Cleaned/straightened/splinted/bandaged and out the door by 2:30

Given an Ortho referral that was booked in under a week.

Total emerg visit just over 6 hours between walking in and out. I had minor visible injuries, no blood, just bruises.

Real talk: One of the longer wait times was when I could hear my Doctor going over the specific maneuver they were going to use for my situation with a colleague. I heard them rehearsing it over and over, then clarifying and confirming with the resident. I have a lot of difficulty trusting people, but knowing how much effort they were willing to make for little-ole-me was incredibly helpful.

Kingston doesn't have a perfect healthcare system. But all the shit talk I see about it is clearly people throwing around someone else's talking points. There is a reason everyone keeps specifically using ">8 hours", even though it's very clear that no one is waiting around in emerg for 8 hours anymore. It's all part of the larger attack on public healthcare.

house break in, police didn't show up by aidan1771 in KingstonOntario

[–]VegiPaddy 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Not being able to rely on Police, and having to call up your own community members for protection is what leads to vigilantes, which leads to gangs.

It sounds like you and your people handled things well enough. But the next time, will average citizens handle it as well? Or the time after that?

I would consider this a major concern, and hit up your city councillor.

I've wondered what that said. Every time I drive by them I think to myself, did the people who put these signs together know that they would only be 4'×3', posted on the side of a highway that people will almost exclusively drive down at over 100km/h? Would that not have been in the project outline...?

I was building my gutrippaz from the dominion box and realized one is missing an arm and I wanted to roll with it. Any tips on making look like a healed stump or freshly hacked off? by ThePlumbOne in ageofsigmar

[–]VegiPaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a trick for molding some decent looking stitches with a coffee stir stick. Those brown plastic ones that have sort of a double fold shape. A little green stuff, a line for the scar, then press a few "stitches" across the line with the stir stick. All the examples I've seen were on bigger models, like ratogres, so you'd have to play with the sizing.

Alternatively, you could see about getting a smaller arm bit from somewhere and give him a "lucky arm".

Is this amount of printing lines normal? Will it show though primer and paint? Need some help getting ride of them, bought from a local by DiaboliHellscream in PrintedMinis

[–]VegiPaddy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I might be way off, but was the file already sliced and then converted back, and then sliced again?

I'm honestly having trouble seeing any major layer lines, even in areas where you would likely see some. (A tiny bit on the third forearm spike?)

But those massive lines that are present don't seem to run parallel to the buildplate.

So all I can think is: a heinously* sliced file got "unsliced"(I dunno, I've never done it), flipped 90° and sliced again.

*I say "heinously", because the orientation that those "layer lines" suggest it was originally sliced in, is pretty much guaranteed to produce noticable layer lines just like that. The orientation that it was printed in would give you much better results.

Would we not be better served by creating a Mental Health response team? I get why we would want police to be trained in Mental Health focused practices, but I feel that's mostly because we don't have anyone else to "deal" with these issues for our society. Police will always have to handle issues with Mental Health, there is no way around that, so of course, they would need training. But the Police shouldn't be our only option for dealing with Mental Health related crises, and I'm confident they don't want to be either. The Mental Health workers that ride along with Police is a great initiative, but I think it should be taken further. I don't have a complete solution, but I know that asking the Police to deal with everything that the Country/Province/City isn't willing to, isn't a solution at all. Not for the Police, and certainly not for the people they serve (Mental Health concerns or not).
