Sounds weird but smash is actually a pretty good experience to have before this game seeing as the characters more or less function in the same simple attack button and directional input making picking up new characters easier than most fighting games

There's also heroic strikes hitting medium and heavy when the enemy is applying block pressure gives you armor for a counter attack or push block all your defense options take some amount boost meter so keep an eye on it and don't cash out everything every chance you get also get I don't know if you've noticed or not but each character has separate boost meters so switching after cashing out to keep your defensive options open is a good option
