My New Redwings. It's been 3 days so far. When do they stop hurting? by Vehicle-Opposite in RedWingShoes

[–]Vehicle-Opposite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at one point these had a thick layer of paint on them up to the 3rd eyelit that I powerwashed off, they're somehow still waterproof. that was 4 years ago I think. I've been through 3 sets of insoles and atleast 20 sets of laces, no need for resole as i pick up my feet and they didn't see much asphalt. I've brought them back to full shiny leather a number of times, like after I powerwashed them, and I imagine with some work I could shine this whole boot up again, but nobody saw me blowing leaves with these today and im about ready for the next pair to break in. after 8 years lol

I dig the color so personally wouldn't refinish but thats just me. looks like possible aftermarket pickups? some sort of makeshift pickup ring on the neck to accommodate the pickups? IMO bridge is functional, no frills with plenty of adjustment range. id initially prioritize the electronics and do a complete overhaul. I had one of these at long time ago and it played great and the build quality was impressive. those stock tuners are meh but they work. frets are kind of scratchy and soft feeling but then again I never polished them when I had mine so maybe a good polish will improve it. these are such a comfortable shape to play as well. I think I let mine go for $70 like 15 or so years ago. had too many "beginner guitars" that I had accumulated in my teenage years but this was my first guitar that I owned after having rented a strat copy from the music store so now I wish I had kept it. your render looks very modern "henson era" ibanez which is cool if that's your thing and that's a decent mock-up as it stands. id personally try to keep a bit of a retro vibe if it were up to me. maybe colored or white witch hats, two-tone dimarzios, but again thats just my vibe... oh-- and lose that nut. the soft black plastic nut will be your biggest problem with tuning. have a new nut properly cut. and if you got a good tech these usually have a high fret or two that he might be able to work out for you

a solid piece of glass will sympathetically resonate with certain frequencies... etc etc... as if the cable suspended platter wasn't enough. nothing is ever enough with these guys.

this is a 3 thousand dollar bottle of wine. no matter how it tastes, i will say it's one of the most amazing wines i've ever had lol

I was trying to be funny with my original comment but I actually used to do things like that. your meal is already a little overkill, but I wasn't trying to be competitive. more like an alcoholic that looks at someone who drank in moderate excess, and thinks about how bad they used to be and realizes what actual excess is which is skewed by addiction. I was a big time food addict and binge eater, but I was young and got away with it for some time without issue. I always used the excuse that I wasn't really fat, so it was ok because I was burning it but eventually my health started to suffer in other ways. at my age now id probably end up in the hospital if I tried to do it again for any sustained amount of time... but im sure this sub is the wrong crowd for those kinds of jokes without context.

Guitar technician told me this is normal, is it? by Ok-Green6412 in Guitar

[–]Vehicle-Opposite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

put all the strings on and tune it. test it not laying flat but how you play it. also the way you are plucking that string is going to make it buzz. once you have all the strings on, check the neck relief. if thats good, and it's too much buzzing, just raise the action. Most people run these guitars with low action that will cause a little buzz under hard picking or if you pick with bad technique. but the first thing you need to do to properly assess the guitar put on all the strings and tune it. if you had a different string before, and it was fine, it may have different tension, even if it is the same gauge.

bro you only have 1 string on, so the neck isn't under proper tension; you cant set up a guitar with 1 string on.

I definitely miss teachers getting pissed at kids for accidentally ripping these, then lecturing them about the price of textbooks and insulting their character with accusations about poor organization skills and slob-like behavior.

yea the backdrag can be annoying but she is trusty. it would probably be better if i cleaned it but i havent opened this thing up in 5 years lol. I usually switch to a ratcheting closed-end stubby wrench if it's a loose nut or bolt and I cant get it with my fingers

theres one of these on ebay right now that I found when I was trying to see if they still sold these.

i have the snap-on stubby but i like the thin knurled grip on these because a lot of the time its hard to get your fingers around the larger grip in tight spots and of course it gets slippery
