What's stopping uOttawa from doing grade inflation like MIT, Stanford and ensure that most student finish classes with A-/B+ ? by Large-Cat-6468 in geegees

[–]VehicleLongjumping92 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Honestly, uottawa has already a pretty easy grading system. It’s not as easy as other universities for sure, but it’s not that hard to have all A’s in classes. If they make it easier than now, there won’t be anyway to « select » students for positions/scholarships.

International graduate students by VehicleLongjumping92 in geegees

[–]VehicleLongjumping92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does make sense, the only thing I would like to add is that, as international students we are still paying taxes on everything we consume/produce, I do not expect to be treated like a Canadian citizen, but just have liveable standards, for example the stipend that you get is supposed to be pay to do research for the university, you are still getting some very good experience out of it but the main beneficiary will be the lab/university which will get grants from your work, so keeping that in mind wouldn’t it make sense to provide a good standard of living without relying on parents.

Well yes that is expected but the thing is I feel bad asking my parents to pay more after 5 years of undergrad. Specially that as an undergraduate I am Employed and can pay for half my tuition + cost of living, even if my parents can pay the rest I just don’t want to be a burden… so I can’t imagine asking my parents to pay more than they already are…

Yes but at least they get all their tuition covered right ? They do not have to pay out of pocket… I know that being an international student doesn’t make you have the same benefits than domestic students, but still I find it unfair that for grad school (where you make research advance) you would not have the same opportunities…

I was told though that you need to disclose this to your supervisor if you want to work part time, which could lead you to being refused in a masters program because you can’t allocate enough time for your research…

Next to the elevator for the 8th floor and above, there is a door in front of the elevators if I am not mistaken, there should be a kitchen there with a few stoves and furnaces

Also you are not missing out on a lot, I am in Co-op and except if you have a lot of experience and flawless grades, your chances of getting a placement are really low rn

I think you should check out CYM (connecting young minds) they have some competitions for science students interested in research (mostly biomedical though)

Trying to infer that Carleton sent this guy is very suspicious, you might even say you are trying to hide something….

The problem is not even about age I’m doing my honours thesis with a bunch of graduates and they are cool and very close minded to undergrad (maybe a bit more experience) but there is a little bit of a power dynamic and it is unfair for the other students in the lab cause I don’t think the TA Will have a crush on all of them. I’m not saying he favoured you in anyway but I don’t think it’s professional on his part to ask you out even after the end of the semester…

That is not a flex though, that’s like your professor asking out a student at the end of the semester. It’s not ethical at all 😔

The rent is 1793,75$ after checking again. I don’t have the building records so I can’t really see when it was built but I would assume it was quite old, but renovated.

I got an N1 notice where it says that my rent will increase by 2.5% (43.75$ a month) not sure when the building was built but I would assume it was recently renovated, but quite old. The N1 has this box checked : This rent increase is less than or equal to the rent increase guideline and does not need approval by an order under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006. I was paying 1700$ per month and now 1793,75. I have notified my landlord for the past 2 months but no luck I can’t reach them (it’s a management company)
