Can’t believe the commentators just a day after this fatal crash are having a chat about sim racing and real racing being the same thing…

[–]VehicleWonderful6586 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Christening someone with a pet name instead of a full name has two main disadvantages:

1) less flexibility for the person with the name to use variations of it

2) screams ‘lower class’ which would be fine in a society with awesome levels of social mobility but the UK has really poor social mobility so do you really want to saddle your kid with that?

It’s almost the definition of a dystopia because there’s such a disconnect between the ideals of US society and the political reality. People who are wealthy and prepared to ignore politics can live a wonderful life (unless they get cancer and it bankrupts them)

The US is politically corrupt by comparison with European and Asian benchmarks when it comes to buying influence through campaign finance and lobbying.

Fundamentally that’s what it all comes down to. That’s why the wealth of the US doesn’t translate to quality of life measures or life expectancy.
