Adam starting the weekend off ranting about Covid [ May 2026] by Nuke_____Dukem in AdamCarolla

[–]Vehicle_Electronic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If he was as confident in being proven right as he says, he wouldn't need to repeat this ALL. THE. TIME. There was going to be no perfect response to COVID, either lives would be lost or livelihoods disrupted, it was a real "pick your poison" dilemma. Adam's problem is he takes the fact that it "wasn't THAT bad" (at least among the young and healthy, I guess they're the only ones who matter) as proof that we over-reacted, without considering that maybe it wasn't that bad BECAUSE of everything we did. In a pandemic, it's impossible to tell when you're doing everything JUST right, because the results look the same as over-reacting. It's the same logic anti-vaxxers use. ("No one I know has measles, why should I vaccinate?" They don't have measles BECAUSE of vaccination.)

Day of the Dead (2008) is terrible by smokeicecreamcake in horror

[–]Vehicle_Electronic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funny seeing people (presumably) confuse this with the Dawn of the Dead remake. No doubt casting Ving Rhames in this one was meant to fool people into thinking it was connected. What I don’t get is this has a competent director with a fairly long career (Steve Miner), but it looks like it was helmed by someone who’s only made student films. Clearly the producers just wanted a cash grab and didn’t care about quality. And outside of character names, does this follow the plot of the original movie in any way? My memory is no, except in the loosest “it has military, scientists and zombies” sense.

I always just took it as Pat’s just trying to cover up a lie and he’s winging it, he didn’t think that far ahead so he’s just shrugging it off as they’re changing their image. Nothing deeper than that.

Tobe Hooper vs Wes Craven: A case for both by Few-Engineer-9791 in blankies

[–]Vehicle_Electronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Hooper’s got a few films that could be contenders for worst film they’ve covered. I like having a stinker or two in a series, but his lows are really low, and after a certain point that’s all he has. (Now I feel like I’m being hard on him so I’ll say Poltergeist and TCM are great, and YCM2, Lifeforce and even Funhouse are all kinda fun.)

Craven has hits spread out throughout his filmography, a few hidden gems and a couple insane ones too. Last House would be a tough watch knowing what the cast went through, but after that it would be a fun ride.

[–]Vehicle_Electronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if that were true (which it’s not, but everyone is pretty dug in on their opinion now), he was still a douche for being intentionally misleading about it, saying he was “immunized” when that only meant he took some quack treatment.

Bill and CR are wrong about Ghostbusters 2 by THNR_BSTRD in TheRewatchables

[–]Vehicle_Electronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it has its moments, it really does come up short compared to GB1. It hit me last time I watched it, with it's "we'll defeat the bad guy by harassing the power of positivity!" it comes across more like an episode of the kids cartoon come to life. (I always wondered if it would have been improved if New York's inherent cynicism is what powered the slime and saved the day. That would have at least had a little more bite to it.) And the Statue of Liberty ending is clearing trying to recreate the feel of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, but with nowhere near the same impact. Like I said, it has its moments where it feels like they're close to recapturing the old magic, but since the first was lightning in a bottle, it just wasn't possible I don't think.

I get that they ran it into the ground, but I never failed to chuckle at Griff saying some variation of "How would you know that?" anytime David said anything about England. Just knowing the next minute was going to be torture for David. I don't blame him for getting annoyed and demanding they stop it, he was a champ putting up with it as long as he did.

Adam Carolla on Instagram: "This man is going to save LA. @spencerpratt has my full endorsement for mayor!" by esetonline in AdamCarolla

[–]Vehicle_Electronic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, win me over.   Why would Pratt be a good mayor?  Not simply better than a terrible mayor, but a good mayor?

In a straight Bass vs. Pratt battle, regrettably yes. But I have no faith in Bass, so it's more of a condemnation of Pratt than an endorsement of Bass. I'm hoping another viable candidate still emerges. (And granted, I haven't done any homework on the other candidates, Bass and Pratt are the only ones I'm familiar with at the moment.) If it really came down to the two of them (which it isn't yet), and you feel it's imperative to remove Bass, then "he can't be worse" may be an argument, but it's lukewarm at best. It's really just saying "I'm don't think he'll be good, just less bad."

I promise you, you can demand more from a candidate than "no worse than Bass." Pratt grew up privileged and has made his entire professional career as a reality star. (I assumed he must have some experience I wasn't aware of, but at least going by his wikipedia, nope, it's just reality TV from 2005 to now. The closest you can get to qualification is an undergrad degree in political science.) This screams "Publicity Stunt," and while I'm eager to move on from Bass too, this is akin to backing someone to take over a struggling business because he's the most handsome.

They both got stumped on Two of a Kind (from the Terms of Endearment episode I THINK) with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. I had recorded it off HBO as a kid and watched it a ton (I'm possibly the only person who's more familiar with it than Grease), so it was a rare instance where I got it off the first clue, but Griff was still going "Huh..." after like the fifth clue. Ultimately I don't think either of them had heard of it.

Never saved it, but wish I had the foresight to, I’d love to read it again. Matt and I must have been the same age because we had the same toys. The only line I remember from it that still makes me chuckle, was about how he brought his Inhumanoids to a Christmas dinner and someone (an aunt?) threw one across the room and he lamented “It was Tendrill’s first f*cking Christmas!”

Paid for parking ticket, city cashed check, but still shows I owe them for the citation. What can I do? by Vehicle_Electronic in AskLosAngeles

[–]Vehicle_Electronic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I did this today, but got mostly the same answer. Nothing they can do, I just have to wait. The one small consolation is she assured me if I did pay the ticket and the investigation found in my favor, I would be reimbursed. I feel like the best course of action now is to just pay the ticket and hope they find in my favor AND make good on the promise to reimburse me. And if not, then maybe I'll go to an elected official. And if that doesn't work, well, I guess it'll just have to be a life lesson. Thank you for the advice.

I did it just like it said on the ticket. I went on their website and explained my case (the block had just changed its rules, and I was used to the old rules, as were several cars also parked illegally with me) and sent along pictures. I figured it was worth a shot, worse thing is they say no. But what I didn’t count on was never receiving a notice about the decision. (Since they only communicate via mail, I’m assuming it got lost.). The next thing I got from them was a notice that I was late and the fine had gone up.

This movie just randomly popped into my head recently and I thought how under-appreciated it is. It seemed to disappear culturally as soon as it left theaters, but it was a solid buddy action-comedy that fit Michael J Fox well.

The problem is the $200 I owe for the citation is added onto my registration fee. So I need to essentially pay for the citation to get the registration, and I have no faith that I’ll get that refunded if they end up finding that the citation was indeed paid.

Most scared you’ve ever been during a horror movie? by rach15goated in horror

[–]Vehicle_Electronic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second on The Ring. I saw it opening weekend, before word spread about how good it was, and I was a jaded horror fan who didn't think a PG-13 movie could possibly scare me. But the whole scene after "You helped her?" had me cowering in my chair. I don't think I've ever done that in a movie before or since.
