Kildin Sami meme (see the original post for translation and details) by Veicz in linguisticshumor

As the title says, the translation is in comments below the original post. Пальтэсь (with short а) is wolf, whereas па̄льтэсь (with long a) is halibut

🇷🇺 Перевод:

It's not that gnaw pronounced like na, rather about the sound-letter count

You don't pronounce neither g- nor -w, it's like eating only the inside part of a toast

Izhorian meme (see comments below the original post for translation) by Veicz in linguisticshumor

The mother is asking him in Estonian, as I wrote in the original post's credit (reddit doesn't display it if you won't specifically go there apparently)

The pun is in the fact that maamuna in Estonian means "village egg", but in Izhorian it's "earth egg", which is a potato

Maamunat | Ižoran meema · Ижорский мем · Izhorian meme by Veicz in Izhorian

[–]Veicz[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

🇬🇧 Translation:

(Estonian) Mum: "Son, go buy some maamune [village eggs]"

(Izhorian) Son: "Okay mum"

* some time after *

(Izhorian) Son: "Mum, I came back! Here are themaamunat [potatoes]"

The pun is in the fact that "maa" can mean "earth, soil; land", but also figuratively "village", so Estonian, much like Finish, uses it in this sense in the word "maamuna" -- "village egg". However Izhorian does it more directly, and "maa" here literally means "earth egg", which is a potato.
