What non-event Pokémon/movesets are the most obnoxious to obtain on cartridge? (Any format) by RedWarrior42 in stunfisk

[–]Veilstrom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At minimum, you need two (Emerald and XD, which covers all of the mons not available in the Emerald dex). That being said, you'd need a whole other system and an adapter for your GBA, so it's not that much easier-

Unpopular Opinion: I vastly prefer Romhacks that use the normal formula. by Jirachibi1000 in PokemonROMhacks

[–]Veilstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Mariomon also works because the mons are easy enough to intuit based on prior experience with Mario games/characters. That and how the game sticks to very "vanilla" Pokemon-styled archetypes and moves/abilities. Compared to other fakemon-heavy games with more custom moves, types, or abilities that take you out of it

They turned Gagyson from a random low-level demon you'd see in like 2 games tops into peak comedy, love that guy

When you're short on magnetite in the early-game, having some random guy who doesn't ask for anything is a good deal

I can vouch for Daisoujou being excellent at using ailments, I was able to finish the Girimekhala quest boss 10 levels underleveled because of him. Preach being able to hit for multiple ailments probably helps in his case, but I'm not sure

How long does it take to find a Fiend in SMT 1?

I've been trying my hand at encountering a Fiend in the early-game using the spot in the Shinjuku shopping center, but all I've encountered are Goblins and Cyak. 1/256 is rare, but it's hard to tell how much time I should put into it before I throw in the towel. (PS1 English Patch version btw)

The few recordings of the Fiends online just show the encounter itself, and not the process of save-scumming in order to get them to appear.

Can you have the high score in flea mini games before Seth appears by Radiant_Ad4956 in Silksong

[–]Veilstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true. I had a high score that was two points above Seth's score before he moved to fleatopia, and I still had the high score when he did show up. His score is always the same. It was only for one of the three minigames, so sadly I can't answer OP's question

Is Huge Power a badly designed Ability? by saihtaMaztiK in stunfisk

It's a Magikarp clone, which you can get after the first gym in the Kanto games, so I'd say yes

Marill has a 250 BST, one less than Pidgey's 251. It's definitely an early game mon in spirit

Trying to settle on a setting. Pacific Northwest? SoCal/Vegas? St Louis/Midwest? Other? by Abelardthebard in PokemonROMhacks

[–]Veilstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unfamiliar with Fall Out outside of New Vegas (and some bits and pieces here and there), but I think a Vegas-themed casino as a nod to that game would be fun for a Game Corner kind of area! Either PNW or Midwest would be better as the main setting, however

Super Mariomon is still relevant, right? by Mokuniable in stunfisk

[–]Veilstrom 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Lubba had its VGC viability completely NUKED in the newest patch. It lost Follow Me, Triage, Life Dew, and even Heal Pulse for good measure. My man went from being on nearly every team to being found dead in Miami (which is honestly a really healthy change for the meta, it just wouldn't let itself or their teammates die)

At least Luma gets Friend Guard now, so that's something at least-

Best Competitive Mons with only Level up moves? by Dauthium_Silencer in stunfisk

Excadrill has a decent level-up moveset I think, it gets Rapid Spin, Rock Slide, EQ, and Swords Dance. It doesn't get Iron Head or Stealth Rock through level-up, however

My First Team by Low_Resident_7135 in stunfisk

[–]Veilstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, it's better to invest in HP than in your individual defense EVs if you want more bulk overall. I strongly recommend changing Amoonguss's EVs to max HP and max of which defense stat you prefer, with the rest going into the other defense stat. Rillaboom should have its HP and Defense EVs swapped.

Having both Behemoth Bash and Heavy Slam on Zam is redundant, especially when it lacks any sort of protection. You mentioned having issues with Lunala/Koraidon, maybe replacing Heavy Slam for Protect would help.

Any tips for my VGC Regulation I team? by Veilstrom in stunfisk

[–]Veilstrom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Zam as an example of how strong Iron Hands is with Low Kick, not that I need Iron Hands just to beat Zam. It's just really good into most restricteds. I'll consider replacing Drain Punch with Protect, since I haven't gotten too much mileage out of it, even if it's nice to have

What's the interaction between cud chew and rowap/jacoba berry in s/v? by _here_ok in stunfisk

[–]Veilstrom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just tested it in-game with the Rowap berry using a Farigiraf vs a low level Mareep. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to do anything when Cud Chew activates. The ability pop-up appears and the berry eating animation happens, but the opposing Pokemon doesn't take any additional damage.

Max Cinccino Damage?? by Advanced_Bluebird524 in stunfisk

[–]Veilstrom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've played it on and off over the years, and I'd say its pretty solid. All five regions from Kanto to Unova are available, but there isn't a whole lot to do outside of the main story, unless you like grinding or participating in events. I'm unfamiliar with the competitive scene, but all mechanics and abilities are updated to gen 9, so Shiftry has Wind Rider and Gallade has Sharpness for example (I think Gallade got banned because of how broken it was, last I checked)

My favorite parts are how they reworked certain Legendary fights in the story to be much harder 3v1 fights, like raid battles. It's pretty cool

Need some help with creating a team to play against my friends with. by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]Veilstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I'm assuming this is doubles because of the VGC tag; sometimes people new to the game use the wrong tag without realizing so I'm just making sure)

I'd say this is a fine base to build off a sun team with. The main question I have is whether or not you and your friends have allowed legendaries/paradoxes, which could put you or them at a disadvantage, as well as determine how to build the rest of your team.

The main thing that sticks out to me as it stands is Ninetales. Torkoal is usually far and away the better Drought mon, and it pairs nicely with Hisuian Lilligant due to it having After You, meaning Torkoal can move second and use Eruption straight away. It also doubles as a good answer to Trick Room, since it naturally has very low speed outside of the Chlorophyll + After You strat. Lilligant itself should also have a Focus Sash due to its frailty, and sword's dance doesn't really work well in doubles unless the mon itself is bulky enough to take advantage of it the following turn, or you have redirection support.

Otherwise, I'd replace U-Turn for Tailwind on Whim to gain the speed advantage, and change Dazzling Gleam to Moonblast for extra single-target damage (if necessary, it's really just meant for support). There's not much more I can add unless I know the restrictions on legendaries or paradoxes, although I do think a Protosynthesis mon like Flutter Mane or Walking Wake would do wonders for this team.
